Snowman’s Mammoth Mountain Snow Report 9-27-2012

Good Tuesday to you all, we have clear skies with NW winds to 7 as of 8am. and we have a temperature of 43 at the top of Lincoln at 10,000 feet.

Currently the SS Snow Study Site at 9000 feet show’s we have no snow on the ground.

This is the first time I remember in 20 years that the hill is completely melted out.

Fall Weather: We had our first frost of the year down by my house in Old Mammoth. Not many areas in town got the frost, but it’s a sign that what you all want is near….Snow!

Over the next few days we should have light winds and temperatures in the 40 for lows and highs in the 60s.

Some Showers are in the forecast for Friday so maybe we will get lucky and get a few flakes up at the top of Mammoth Mountain, then we would have some snow to report. 🙂

If your a weather nut we will get into some simple and detailed forecasts and chats at our Mammoth Mountain Weather Forecast web site.

Winter Outlook looking at current models and analogs things are pointing to a better chance for less then normal snowfall. Looking at 8 possible out comes 6 show less snow about 70% while 2 show almost 200% of normal.

What ever happens we feel it will at least be a close to avarage winter snowfall wise. The big question is when will the mountain have a base that will allow us to ski at least 90% of it?

All we need now is Joe B and The Weather Guy to tune in with their thoughts….

Up on the hill crews are out daily getting the mountain ready for Falls first snow’s. Unbound crews have all their equipment out by chair doing some painting for the up coning seasons that are not far away.

This will be the last weekend for mountain biking so let the prep for witner weather begin in ernest.

Mammoth Mountain 9-17-12The count down is on only 44 days until Mammoth Mountain Ski Area is expected to Open Broadway from a massive effort with snowmaking. Snowman will be here all Fall to keep you updated on the progress of snowmaking and natural snowfall.
