Mammoth Snowman Report – 2-13-2017

2-13-2017 – Updated 4PM Photo Snow Report Below – Mammoth Mountain has clear blue skies today.

Over the last week we picked up 4 feet of new snow at Main Lodge and over 8 feet at the top. So much snow it hit the gondola cables at the top.

Chair 14 was also buried and had to be dug out.

Chair 23 is just about hitting the snow in spots, yes it had to be dug out.

The base out on the hill is now up to 178 at Main Lodge and 340 at the top of the Mountain. Yes, those numbers are right, I have only seen this much snow 5 or 6 times in my years up here.

Snow conditions are a really fun machine groomed packed powder with skier pack off the groomed. Snowman will be back out on the hill on Monday and get you some photos and a live video update.

The weather for the next few days will be highlighted by clear blue skis and a warming trend. Highs will be in the 30s today with 5 degrees of warming the next couple days.

Winds today we be N to NE 15-30 MPH over the higher elevations, less wind forecasted on Tuesday.

The next series of storms looks to hit late Thursday and we should see snow likely for about a week. The 10 Day EU forecast is for 84 inches of new snow over the top of Mammoth the next 10 days.

If you’re coming up next weekend be ready for a very stormy weekend with strong winds and moderate to heavy snow at times. We expect the top to be closed and mid mountain lifts will also be closed at times.

I would have games, sleds and snow shoes ready for alternative fun when the hill gets shut down. We are also 100% booked this weekend so be prepared to deal with large crowds.

My advice is stay away from Vons this weekend, bring your own food and supplies.

Roads are clear and dry for the most part, watch for sections of packed snow and there is lots of black ice.

Also to note the snow piles in town are 10-20 feet high, it makes it very hard to pull a car out into traffic. Please beware that people need to slowly inch their cars into the road to be able to see traffic while pulling out of local side streets and driveways.

We live on Canyon and we have fools drive up the street 30 -40 mph, that is not safe folks. FYI all roads in town are now set at 25 MPH due to excessive snow.

Ski ya later… Snowman out
