1-15-2018 @ 8 AM – Happy Martin Luther King Day

It’s going to be a fantastic day here in Mammoth with packed powder on the upper half of the hill and some great groomed out corduroy on the lower half of the hill.

Checking the temperature’s this am we have a 40 at Main and a 31 up top. Winds up top are gusting to 26 MPH out of the SSW, down at Main we have winds @ 8 gusting to 20 MPH.

Out on the hill we have a base of 20-80 inches from little Eagle to the top of Mammoth Mountain with over 2000 acres of groomed out terrain ready to ride on. Off trail the top and chairs 3 and 5 offer the best experience at this time.

Locals Choice this week: for advanced and experts the runs off G2 and Chair 23 are the call. Climax is open (low tide watch for rocks), Dave’s has made a come back. Cornice & Scotties are groomed now, the Drop Outs and Wipe Outs are back to top to bottom skiing.

Snowman is just about better and will be back out on the hill on Tuesday for some turns and to see what the snow conditions are like. There will be a detailed report posted later on Tuesday with some fresh image. We will also work on getting a updated video report posted later today.

Weather for today mostly clear skis expected with a few high clouds around. Highs will be in the 40’s with lows tonight into 20’s to low 30’s. Winds will be out of the SSW today 10 – 20 MPH. On Tuesday winds will be gusting to near 45 mid mountain with gusts to 60 up top.

For Tuesday we also expect mostly cloudy skies with a chance of snow showers and if we get lucky 1-2 inches of fresh possible.

If the system slides a bit father south we could see additional snowfall accumulating. By Thursday into Friday we get a second system that brings snow with 1-2 feet possible by late Friday. Confidence is low in snowfall amounts as of this early Monday morning. If that system comes thru as foretasted Saturday AM could be a bluebird powder day.

Long range we get a chance for more snow fall starting some time next Sunday into Monday. That system is still a bit far out to call right now, but it does appear that it could bring moderate to heavy snowfall. Weather Guy is coming up so I have confidence that it will dump.  🙂

For a complete detailed write up on the weather take at look at our Mammoth Weather Guy forecast at this link.
