Mammoth Snowman Update 10-17-2016

Tims-Snow-Removal-1 210-17-2016 – 7:41 AM – Snow day with snow on the ground down to 8000 feet. Looks like main lodge has 3-6 inches with 1-2 feet being reported up top along with 5-6 foot snow drifts from the 100+ MPH winds.

The snow that is on the ground has a ratio of about 5:1, this is some thick wet base snow.

Taking a look at current conditions: At this time we have rain in town with snow falling from about chair 4 all the way up to the top.

As of this post I have a temperature of 34 here at the 8200 foot level, up at Main it’s 30 with a 25 at the top of the mountain. Winds up top are in excess of 100 MPH out of the SW this morning. Today look for snow showers above 8500 feet with little if any accumulations.

Starting on Tuesday we are going to have some nice warm indian summer weather for about a week then things cool off. If your a local this will be the time to do your final winter preparations, get that wood stacked and covered.

Winter Outlook: Lot’s of preseason winter forecast’s are all over the internet at this time. It’s really a bit early to be jumping on any outlook and consider it reliable.

Snow making: Each year the snow making crew comes on board around the 20th of October to start getting ready for the opening day blow. Crews need temperatures in the mid to upper 20’s for snow making to be effective. Snowman will be watching and reporting when snow making is on or off in just a few short weeks. You can learn more about mammoth mountain snow making here.

Opening Day of Snow Season: Make your plans now to ski the “WORD” on November 10th, 2016. Maybe we will get lucky and get the remnants of a hurricane in late October or early November like we did last season and have a bunch of runs open.

So while we wait for winter to start come on up for some great late Summer and Early Fall fun. All summer sports and activities are still going on full right into the middle of September.

MammothSnowman.com Winter 2016-2017 Updates: Going to be a fun season for producing content for all of you. This year we have a new apple mac pro to edit with along with 2 new go pro 5’s for 4k video production. We also have two new Cannon Power Shots Camera’s to help with the content production.

Along with that we have Shannon who will be getting lot’s on hill photos and Sean will be joining the team to take care of Snap Chat, Instagram and help us film the new version of our video snow report, ya this season Snowman will also be in the videos skiing. All we need now is SNOW!
