Mammoth Snowman Update 11-18-2016

mammoth-lakes-hot-wax11-18-2016 – 9 AM – Good morning from Mammoth Mountain, clear skies over head at this time.

For today expect highs in the mid to upper 30’s with clear skies. Highs on Saturday will be near 40. Lows tonight will come up into the mid to upper 20s.

Winds will also be picking up on later today with gusts increasing to 35-45 MPH out of the SW. Gusts on Saturday could reach in excess of 70 MPH over the top. Looks like a day when chair 1 and G2 could be on wind hold at times.

On Sunday we will have a chance of snow showers looks to be a dusting to a few inches possible. For our complete weather discussion with charts and weather images use this Mammoth Weather link

Snow Report Update Out on the hill we currently have a base of 6-36+ inches from Main Lodge up to the top.

The snow surface on the lower runs is a mix of firm machine groomed snow to a softer fresh man made snow pack. (There are a few spots that are solid ice so beware.)  Some fun turns to be had on Thursday for sure.

Up top they are grooming Cornice and it is carving great first thing in the moring. You’re going to need a good edge up top as there is some nice firm wind buff mixed in with some ice and suck pack.

Lifts open at this time: Chairs 1 and 3 along with G1 and G2. Chair 11 is close to being able to run as is chair 6 the unbound lift. Chair 2 and the Mill are closed and need more snow on both upper and lower Stump to open. So far they are making snow on upper stump alley.

Runs that will be open this weekend weather permitting: Broadway, Saddle Bowl, Center Bowl, Christmas Bowl, China Bowl, West Bowl, Cornice Bowl, Dave’s, Climax and the Drop Outs. There could be additional runs opening with the snowmaking.

Snowmaking has been running for 3 days and will shut off today. It looks like they can run during the nights thru Thanksgiving with a few day time runs in there as well.

At this time they have been making snow on Andy’s Double Gold, Rusty’s, The Unbound Main, Upper Stump Alley and on 2 beginners runs.

If your coming up for Thanksgiving, terrain is going to be very limited compared to last season. We are not even sure they will have chair 2 and the mill open. Canyon Lodge will be closed as there is no snow to ski on in that area the same for Eagle Lodge.

Saddle Bowl – The snow in Saddle Bowl was a nice groomed packed surface on Thursday. Most of the snow in here is all natural with snowmaking coverage on the lower half of the run.
