Mammoth Snowman Update 11-21-2016

Mammoth Mountain Radar11-21-2016 – 5 AM – Good morning from Mammoth Mountain.

The storm we had been advertising is a total bust.

We picked up a trace here at the 8200 foot level and at Main lodge they picked up 1/2 inch of new snow.

The good news is we got a re enforcing shot of cold air into the area for some 24/7 snowmaking.

For today expect pt cloudy skies with a chance of snow showers. There could be up to an inch of new snow under the heavier showers. IMHO I doubt Mammoth get’s anything today.

Look for a high near 28 at Main Lodge today. Winds today will be light at Main 5-15 MPH, with gusts up top to 30 MPH possible. Chance of precipitation today is 50%.

Thanksgiving Day is forecast to be clear and dry with highs in the 30’s, should be a good day to get some turns in before the Holiday crowds hit on Friday.

Snow Conditions Report and News From The Hill

The Unbound Park is now open after a massive snowmaking run. It’s still low tide in the park but they have some cool features set up and more will be coming out for the upcoming Thanksgiving weekend.

Bus Service the Red Line and the Blue Lines are now open for the winter season here in Mammoth Lakes.

Lifts open at this time: Chairs 1, 3 and 11 along with G1 and G2. Chair 11 is close to being able to run as is chair 6 the unbound lift. Chair 2 and the Mill are closed and need more snow on both upper and lower Stump to open. So far they are making snow on upper stump alley.

Runs that will be open today weather permitting: Apple Pie, Broadway, Rusty’s, Andy’s Double Gold, Saddle Bowl, Center Bowl, Christmas Bowl, China Bowl, West Bowl, Cornice Bowl, Dave’s, Climax and the Drop Outs.

Snowmaking has been running off and on all week long. Conditions look good for snow making nightly for the next week. There could be a couple days cold enough to blow snow all day long as well.

If your coming up for Thanksgiving, terrain is going to be very limited compared to last season. We are not even sure they will have chair 2 and the mill open. Canyon Lodge will be closed as there is no snow to ski on in that area and the same for Eagle Lodge.

Snow Report Update 11-18-2016 – Out on the hill we currently have a base of 6-36+ inches from Main Lodge up to the top.

The snow surface on the lower runs is a mix of firm machine groomed snow to a softer fresh man made snow pack. (There are a few spots that are solid ice so beware.)  Some fun turns to be had on Thursday for sure.

Up top they are grooming Cornice and it is carving great first thing in the moring. You’re going to need a good edge up top as there is some nice firm wind buff mixed in with some ice and suck pack.

Saddle Bowl – The snow in Saddle Bowl was a nice groomed packed surface on Thursday. Most of the snow in here is all natural with snowmaking coverage on the lower half of the run.
