Mammoth Snowman Report – 12-17-2016

12-17-2016 – 7:05 AM – Good morning from Mammoth Mountain, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

We just got hammered with a massive base storm that will allow all lifts and runs to be open starting today.

Snowfall totals are 40-60 inches of new snow from 9000 feet up. Below that there is 18-24 inches of new very heavy base snow to work with. The snow that fell was some of the thickest sierra cement I ever remember, just what we need for the Holidays.

Currently it’s 10 at Main Lodge with a SE wind to 10 MPH. Up Top it’s 7 with NNW winds gusting 61 MPH.

Today expect highs in the teens and twenties NW winds to 35-45 MPH over the mid and upper mountain. On Sunday expect less winds with highs in the twenties again under clear blue skies. The upcoming week will offer lows in the 20s with day time highs in the 30s with light winds.

Next chance of snow is late next week when we could see a cold storm with several more inches of snow to refresh the surface conditions. At this time, I do not see any more powder days or big storms thru the New Year.

Snow Conditions Report and News from The Hill

Snow Report Update with 2-5+ feet of new base snow the ski area is in mid-winter conditions. 100% of the hill will be open starting today, be aware the chair 9 and 25 areas could use some more snow in spots so watch your line.

The base is a bit low down at Eagle but the rest of the hill is covered as follows: Canyon Lodge 2 feet, Lincoln 3-5 Feet, 4-5 feet at Main Lodge and up top 10-11 feet.

Out on the hill on Friday we had high winds, heavy snow, fog and all the lift were covered in ice that had to be pounded off cables, towers and chairs. With the harsh weather and ice nothing id or upper mountain got running.

For today expect things to roll quickly with the entire hill open by mid-morning. Snowman will be out and about getting images from the ski area and around town this morning. Later today I will get those posted for your enjoyment until then snowman out…

DUMP ALERT!! – New this season Snowman will be emailing and texting a dump alert once it starts to snow, along with our dump alert we also have a once a month newsletter that comes out the first week of each new month. Here is the link to sign up…
