Mammoth Snowman Report

12-19-2016 – 7:40 AM – Good morning from Mammoth Mountain, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

We just got hammered with a massive base storm that will allow all lifts and runs to be open for the holiday season.

Snowfall totals are 40-60 inches of new snow from 9000 feet up. Below that there is 18-24 inches of new very heavy base snow to work with. The snow that fell was some of the thickest sierra cement I ever remember, just what we need for the Holidays.

Currently it’s 21 at Main Lodge, up top it’s 29 with SW winds gusting 16 MPH. This week we can expect highs in the 30s with light winds out of the south west at times. Night time lows will be in the 20’s, perfect for snowmaking over at Little Eagle.

Next chance of snow is late next week when we could see a cold storm with a dusting of snow. Models show a powder storm about the 27th and then again New Year eve and into New Years days.

Snow Conditions Report and News from The Hill

12-19-2016 – Snow Report Update with 2-5+ feet of new base snow the ski area is in mid-winter conditions. 100% of the hill is now open, be aware the chair 9 and 25 areas could use some more snow in spots so watch your line.

The base is a bit low down at Eagle but the rest of the hill is covered as follows: Canyon Lodge 2 feet, Lincoln 3-5 Feet, 4-5 feet at Main Lodge and up top 10-11 feet.

Snow condition: The groomers area great machine groomed packed power with just about all runs getting groomed nightly during the holiday season. Of the groomers you will find some nice skier packed out powder snow. Some runs up top are getting a more of a wind buff type of surface now.

Snowman will have a fresh photo snow report with images from out on the hill on Wednesday. Enjoy the holiday season and get ready for lot’s of powder days ahead! Snowman out
