Mammoth Snowman Report 4-22-2017

4-22-2017 – 8:15 AM – Good morning from Mammoth Mountain, we currently have clear skies over Mammoth Mountain.

Weather conditions today will be warm with highs in the upper 40s to low 50s out on the hill.

Expect a southwest wind 10 to 15 mph increasing to 20 to 25 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph.

By Sunday highs will back down just a bit for the pond skim and closing day at Canyon and Eagle Lodges.

Snow Conditions have turned to mostly spring conditions over the majority of the hill now. So expect things to be firm when the hill opens at 8:30. Locals choice is hit the hill at 9:30 AM and head right over to the chair 9 area for some fun soft spring snow.

By 10:30 am most of the hill will be softening in to some fun spring snow. With the warmth this weekend you will want a fresh wax, get a free wax at Footloose, there is a coupon for it at the bottom of this page.

At this time Mammoth Mountain has a base from Main Lodge to the top of 200 to 350 + inches. All lifts are expected to run this weekend.

Starting on Monday weekday lifts that are expected to run are chairs: 1,2,3,4 (thru April 30th),6,11,23 and G1 and G2. From those lifts you can access runs off of chair 5, the Avy chutes and runs off of 12 via road runner.

On spring weekends if there is enough of a crowd they add in 4, 5, 10 and sometimes chair 12.

The long range weather outlook calls for a slight chance of showers on Tuesday. Beyond that it looks clear with normal spring breezy conditions at times. High will be in the 40s in the 6-10 day outlook.

We do not see any more winter storms all the way out for 2 weeks now. Looks like spring has finally sprung, however I would expect at some point we get some more snowfall in May.

Here is the link to our detailed weather and powder outlook at out Mammoth Mountain & Mammoth Lakes Weather Center. Weather Guy updates the page on Tuesdays and Fridays and Snowman will be updating the weather page all other days except on Sunday.

Here at we will keep you updated year round on conditions on Mammoth Mountain. Rumor has it that we just might stay open longer the July 4th, maybe even right until next opening day in early November.

Have a great day and we will ski you later, Snowman out!
