Mammoth Mountain is Now Closed Until Further Notice, There Is No Uphill Hiking Allowed!
Please avoid all travel to Mammoth Lakes at this time, all non-essential services & lodging have been closed. Back Country Skiing and Snowboarding are not advised until next season!
4-4-2020 – 10 AM – We have clear blue skies over Mammoth Mountain on this Saturday morning. That should change later today as a return to winter is on the way late today lasting into next Thursday.
The NWS has issued Winter Storm Warnings for heavy snowfall and strong winds from Sunday at noon into Monday at Noon. This system has a bullseye on the mountains from Big Pine to the June Lake Area. (Read the Details Below)
Currently, at the top of Mammoth at 11,000 feet, the temperature is 19 with WSW winds at 45 MPH gusting to 52 MPH. Down at Main Lodge, it’s 29 with WSW winds today at 15 MPH gusting to 33 MPH.
Looking at the hill it sure has taken on a bit of a new look with all the new snow and no skier or border traffic the last couple weeks. Check out the cornices forming that are normally knocked down by ski patrol. If you want to see what it looks like, the webcams are still running.
For Mammoth Lakes and the Ski Area, there is a shelter in place order that will be re-evaluated later in May. The town is very quiet now, as everyone has left the area and locals, for the most part, are hanging out at home wondering what happens next.

Mammoth Mountain & Mammoth Lakes Weather
Looks like a nice April Storm is heading towards Mammoth Mountain and the Central Sierra. Models have been strong on QPF, but are backing off a bit this morning.
Snowfall forecast amounts into next Thursday still look to be in the 2 – 3+ foot range for areas in the Central Sierra above 9000 feet.
This storm will be great for the snowpack and our spring and summer runoff. FYI: The snow from storms that come in this late in the season will melt and run off fast as the snow will not have time to become part of the winter snow base.
There is currently a travel ban in Inyo and Mono counties so please do not come up to check out the snow. Use the Mammoth Mountain webcams that are still up and running to see what it’s like out there. .

Steve Taylor – The Mammoth Snowman – Over the last 30+ years, Snowman has spent countless hours studying and learning about Mammoth Mountain Weather and Snow Conditions first hand. He has been skiing around the hill with marked ski poles since March of 1991 so he can measure the fresh snowfall amounts out on the hill.
