Mammoth Lakes & Bishop California Travel & Recreation News:

Short Term Lodging is set to open in Inyo and Mono Counties on June 12th. The only exception is Mammoth Lakes and hotels and condos should open the following week on June 19th. It’s time to start setting your plans in stone to come up and visit. Everyone is ready for you with welcoming arms, time to have some safe fun, let’s all play by the rules so we can keep open.

Camping is now allowed private RV sites in both Mammoth and Bishop. And just in New Shady Rest and Old Shady Rest Campgrounds in Mammoth Lakes will open on the 12th now. I will have more information ASAP.

The Mammoth Lakes Basin is closed to vehicles at this time, however, you are allowed to walk in or ride your bike up into the basin. Businesses at the lake are not open but are hoping to have the open signs up by the 19th.

Line St Hwy 168 is open up into the Bishop Creek area and you can get up to Sabrina and North Lake at this time. The south lake road has construction going so locals are avoiding that area.

Mountain Bike Season Trails and dirt roads in the Inyo National Forest are melted out and are in great shape for a ride. Lot’s of people have been helping to clean up trails so they are clear of winter debris now.

The Mammoth Mountain Bike does not have an opening date as of today. They are opening up the Snow Summit Bike Park this weekend so that will give them a great chance to see how they need to run things here in Mammoth. I have high confidence that the park will open in some form.

If you’re in need of Biking Gear and or a Bike Tune the Footloose Bike Shop is Open. They also have Bike Rentals and their Discount Tuesday Deal is going now. Call them at 760-934-2400 for the details.

Fishing has been a bit slow the last few days with the super moon, with that on the wane the bit will be picking up just in time for your first trip to the area. Local Lakes are full of hungry fish from last seasons hold over and the fall stockings that took place. Just beware you have to walk into the lakes basin as of this post.

Hiking Trails are melting out quickly as we had a below-normal snow year. The Sherwin Lakes trail has been melted out for a while now and locals have been getting some mileage in up to the lake.  The Mammoth Rock Trail is now doable for both hikers and bikers, watch out for horse on this trail now.

Panorama Dome Trail just off of Lake Mary Road is also melted out. I have not ventured up into the lakes basin in the last couple week so no idea what has melted out higher up yet.

The Lakes Basin Paved Bike Path to Horseshoe Lake is also melted out now for a nice summer bike ride.

Thanks for Stopping by Snowman Out

PS: I am looking for an older RV to use as my Base Camp in Mammoth Lakes and around the Eastern Sierra. Contact me if you have an older RV you’re looking to sell or get rid of.
