8-19-2020 9 AM Good morning we cloudy skies mixed with haze this morning from dispersed smoke that is coming from all the fires around the state.
The beach fire by Mono Lake is the only fire that is in or near the area. That fire is 80% contained at this time and is not putting out much if any smoke now.
There where multiple lighting strikes from Bishop to Mammoth Lakes and north on Tuesday, so far no new fires have been reported.
Everyone is praying that there is nothing smoldering out there that could flame up today.
Currently, at the top of Mammoth Mountain it’s 58 with WSW winds to 16 gusting to 19 MPH, down in the town of Mammoth Lakes it was a balmy 69 this morning and in Bishop, it’s 70.
For today there is a 20-40% chance of T Storms, with the higher chance in the Mountains above the Bishop area
Highs this week will continue to be into the. low to mid-80s in Mammoth Lakes with 70’s up in the Lakes Basin and up at the Mammoth Mountain Main Lodge.
Down in Crowley Lake expect the upper 80s to low 90’s with low to mid 100s for Bishop. Expect Southwest winds 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph in all areas during the PM hours.
Nighttime lows are not dropping fast with this current weather pattern, bring a fan if you’re coming to stay in Mammoth Lakes in a condo or hotel, it’s going to be warm and there is no AC.
Road Conditions: If you’re traveling up to the Eastern Sierra there is an excessive heat warning for the Owens Valley. Highs will be 103-107 today with just a couple of degrees of cooling over the next few days.
Be prepared with food, water, and shade if you have a breakdown, heat like this can kill fast be prepared.
Most roads are open at this time, Hwy 120 on the East side is closed due to the Beach Fire.
There are COVID travel restrictions being enforced if you want to travel through Yosemite. will need a reservation premade online to be able to enterer and travel through or use the park.
The road down to Reds Meadow is open as parking in the valley allows, I would not advise waiting it out as I have heard of people waiting 4-5 hours.
