Footloose Sports in Mammoth Lakes - 760-934-2400

May 26th, 10:35 AM Good Wednesday morning from Mammoth Lakes and the Eastern Sierra. It’s going to be a great day to get outdoors and take an adventure.

This morning’s window cast shows once again we have clear blue skies over the entire area.

Temperatures have been warming up here in the high county the last couple of days and it feels like spring again.

If you’re coming up for the Holiday Weekend you will be able to Ski, Snowboard, Bike, Fish, Walk, Run, Golf, Climbing, and Hike.

Nothing like Memorial Day weekend when you can get the grand slam of both winter and summer sports in on the same weekend.

Taking a look at the Weather Forecast the warm-up that we forecasted as arrived in the Eastern Sierra.

Over the next couple of days, highs will come up an additional 3-5 degrees and then will level off and hover about average for this time of year through the Memorial Day weekend.

Main Lodge highs will be in the upper 50s to low 60s with the upper 60s to low 70s in Mammoth Lakes and up to near 90 in Bishop during the afternoon hours.

Night times low be in the upper 30s to low 40s for the high country with upper 40s to low 50s for the lower elevations down to Bishop.

Winds this week into the weekend will be out of the SW with light winds for Mammoth Lakes and the lower elevations. Over higher elevations, you can expect moderate winds at times during the afternoon hours @ 15-25 MPH with gusts to 25-30 MPH.

Also to note that weather models this morning due show a chance of build-ups on Sunday with a slight chance of showers. Beyond the weekend next week it looks like more warming with a taste of early Summer for a few days.

Road Conditions: all roads are clear at this time. Sonora Pass is now opened while Tioga Pass remains closed.

The road to Devil’s Post Pile is closed, along with the road up into the Mammoth Lakes Basin. If you want to access the lakes basin you can walk in or ride a bike at this time. I do expect the road up into the Lakes Basin to open on Friday this week.

Mammoth Mountain Snow Conditions: Spring skiing and snowboarding is on thru Monday with 7 lifts and over a dozen open runs.

Mountain Biking: The Mammoth Mountain Bike Park is set to open on Friday, May 28th. Expect several lower mountain runs to be open with the shuttle service running out of the Village.

For trails to ride outside the Bike Park, check out the current Eastern Sierra and Mammoth Mountain Bike Report at this link, I will be updating this report a couple of times a week this Summer.
