Ideas of What To Do this September
There are a ton of activities to do up here from Mammoth Lakes to Bishop and beyond. Here are a few ideas of what to do along with a link that shows everything that is open and closed at this time.
Here are some of the things we plan to do this Labor Day weekend and over the next couple of weeks.
Ride or walk around on the Mammoth Lakes paved trails system. There are miles of paved paths that are perfect for walking, running or biking on. The views are amazing as you go from open areas to wood forested areas.
Go, Bowling, take in a round of golf, or hit up the driving range. Check out the Labor Day Arts Festival or the Rock N Rye Festival in the Village.
Shady Rest Park and the Disk Golf course will also be open. Go fishing in Mammoth Creek in the areas that come right into Mammoth Lakes or head out to the Upper Owens River. Crowley Lake is open with boating and shoreline fishing.
Footloose is having their Annual Labor Day Parking Lot sale with everything 40% off! We have great deals going on with some Winter items, all Summer, bike clothes, and camping supplies.
Take a scenic drive up around the June Lake Loop. We like to stop in at the Double Eagle Resort when we drive up the loop. If you have not done the June Loop drive in later Summer it’s gorgeous.
Once you go past Grant lake at the end of the June Lake Loop keep going to 395 and then take a left and drive up to Mono Lake. The visitors center is closed but you can still park and check out the views.
Lee Vining is a cool town to check out on your way back from Mono Lake, check out the ice cream stand right on 395. Back down 395 check out the yummy food at the Eastside Bakery at MC Gee Creek and then fish the large trout pools at MC Gee.
In Bishop, there is the Tri-County Fair and of course the city park to relax in with some take-out food. You can also check out the Laws railroad museum. Or how about a float down the Owens River in the Bishop area. There are also concerts and other shows going on at the Tri country fairgrounds all this week and into Labor Day.
Along with the shows, there will be a parade down Main St in Bishop on Saturday at 10 AM. This will be a full-on cattle drive with some other fun characters joining in along with many first responders.
Yosemite is also open, but I believe you still need to make reservations to get into the park. Bodie State Park remains open, that’s a fun day trip. Add in a drive up to Bridgeport and then head to Bodie on the way back.Â
These are just some of the ideas of things you can do in the Eastern Sierra this weekend. For a complete list of what’s opened and what’s closed check out this link to Mono County Tourism.
