Mammoth Mountain Snow Report from the Snowman

11-7-2021 @ 1:45 PM – Got word from my guy on the hill today that there was fog and firm pack fun this morning. 🙂 lol glad somebody else was reporting that and not me. 🙂

Checking out the webcams right now and the fog bank is still about halfway up 3.

Snow Conditions: If you going out on the hill on Monday expect firm snow to start the day and then as the sun comes up now an hour earlier I would expect softening conditions by 9:30 to 10 AM. Once the snow softens up it’s like spring skiing in fall.

The mountain could really use a refresh of snow at this point and a good run-on snowmaking. Can’t wait till Monday night and Tuesday when hopefully that happens.

From our forecast page, it looks like there could be 8-12 inches of new base snow at Main Lodge from the next system. Over the upper mountain into the powder fields of Mammoth Mountain, you can expect 12- 18 inches of new heavy base snow.

Snowfall ratios look to be in the 8 to 1 range overall. Just what we need to build some good base over the upper half of the hill.

Most of this storm will be snow, however on Tuesday after lunch you can expect the snow/rain line to go up to around 9000 – 9300 feet.

How much snow will the Canyon Lodge area get?

Right now the call is 3-6 inches of wet base snow around 8500 feet with some light rain expected on top of that snow on Tuesday. Don’t worry about the rain, it will help keep the snow around until the next storm shows up at some point.

The base from 9000 feet up is 1-3 feet with obstacles showing. Right down at Main Lodge, there are bare spots now. So this incoming system is happening right when we need it most.

Snowmaking Temperatures have been too warm to blow snow. The next window to make snow will be Sunday night into Monday morning and then again Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

After that, it’s going to be too warm to make snow into the following weekend. We do see a shift to much colder air, but it’s going to be a couple of weeks or more before that pattern sets in.

Mountain Operations: Mammoth Mountain is now open out of Main Lodge with chairs 1, 3, and G1 and G2. Lift hours are 8:30 AM to 4 PM.

Please note there are no beginner runs open at this time until crews can make snow or the next storm hits.

The Parking Shuttle is running as needed each day. The Redline is closed with the Town Trolleys running in town only.

Canyon Lodge and the Village Gondola are closed and are scheduled to open the week before Christmas weather permitting.
