What’s Your Mammoth Story? How did you find out about Mammoth? How long have you been traveling to the area? Do come up just in winter or do you travel here year-round? Share a favorite memory from a day up here, please.

Myself, when my parents got into the skiing scene they started to bring me up to Mammoth with them. At 5 Mammoth Mountain was so big it was just amazing. During the 70s the family would spend at least a couple of weeks a year on the hill during the winter months.

When I was 7 I got to meet Dave Mc Coy and talk to him in line at the old chair 10. I asked why are you waiting in line you’re the owner? He said, “it’s not fair to cut in line and that he got many of his ideas to improve the ski area riding single and talking to all the great people.“

Once I could drive at 16 my dad let me go up by myself and I was hooked. In 85/86 I got my first season pass and drove to Mammoth 26 weeks in a row that season.

My wife and I loved the Mammoth area so much just a few years later (1990) we were blessed with being full-time residents and homeowners.

It’s been an amazing Mammoth journey…

Over the last 30+ years, Snowman has spent countless hours studying and learning about mammoth mountain weather and snow conditions first hand. Snowman started blogging this information back in 1990 on the old Mammoth BBS system, then the RSN Forums and then on to MammothSnowman.com in 2004 with his Video & Photo Blog reports.
