April 19th, 2022 Good morning, it’s Winter in April up here in the high country, with the lower elevations in full-on Spring mode.

This morning you will find cloudy skies over Mammoth Mountain, with light snow expected later today along with strong winds.

Once you get off the hill you will find a few high clouds around the rest of the Eastern Sierra. Winds remain gusty from Mammoth Lakes all the way down to Bishop.

Today’s weather system is weak so don’t expect much more than a dusting of snow above 8000 feet with maybe an inch over the crest at best.

Travelers will find all roads are clear at this time with just the normal winter closures still in place.

If you’re planning on coming into the area on Thursday there is a decent storm system heading our way. Roads should be fine with R1 only expected on HWY 203 and in Mammoth Lakes by Thursday PM.

Recreational Weather Forecast: Recreational Weather Forecast: If you’re going to be out on the hill or out in the high country (8500 Feet or higher) today you can expect mostly cloudy skies with a chance of some light snow showers.

Highs will be in the 30s, winds will be southwest 40 to 50 mph, with gusts as high as 75+ mph.

The lower elevations will be wonderful with highs in the mid-40s for Mammoth Lakes to lower 50s for Crowley to Toms Place, with Bishop reaching a balmy 73 this afternoon.

Snow Conditions: You will find a firmer packed powder from Main Lodge up to the top today. Expect some of that snow to turn to spring on Wednesday, and then all pack to winter later on Thursday as the next decent.

The base at the 9000-foot level Main Lodge is 44 inches. Lifts running this week are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 11, 12, 23, and the Upper and Lower Gondolas. Lift hours are still from 8:30 to 4 PM.

East Side Mountain Biking: The entire area is a bit sketchy to ride today as there are very strong winds. Wednesday is looking good in the Mill Pond and Bishop areas with calm winds. Around Toms Place and the Lower Rock Creek area winds will be in the 10-15 MPH with gusts in the 25 MPH range.
