Mammoth Mountain Weather Forecast & Discussion

Monday, March 20th, 2023 @ 2:20 PM – Good afternoon, and happy first day of spring. The snowfall of winter will continue regardless of what the calendar says with the next system into the area on Tuesday morning lasting into mid-day Wednesday with 1-2+ feet of snow looking likely above the 8000-foot level and across Mammoth Mountain.

This will be a colder system with snow levels dropping all the way down to the bottom of the Sherwin Grade with some snowflakes also expected in Round Valley and Bishop on Tuesday into the evening hours.

Snowfall accumulations from Toms Place to Crowley Lake are forecast to be in the 6-10 inch range and that will mean 395 will get white once again. Below Toms Place, there could be a dusting to several inches of snow at some point on Tuesday.

By next Thursday clouds will clear out after early morning snow showers.

On Friday there will be a break with bluebird skies, the perfect day to dig out or get some freshies. More snow can then be expected over the upcoming weekend.

Early the following week there is another weather system in this parade of never-ending weather systems. The good news is over the next 10 days the QPF forecast from these systems is down in the 3-5 inch range for the 9000-foot level.

As of this update, there are no signs of a break with a big warm-up anytime soon. High Country locals need to get down to Bishop as there is some greening of the local ground foliage starting up and it feels like early spring.

Current Weather Alerts: WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 5 AM TUESDAY TO 5 AM PDT WEDNESDAY…

If you’re going to be out on Mammoth Mountain on Tuesday,  expect snowfall moderate to heavy at times with 8-16 inches of new snow possible. Temperatures will be in the mid to upper 20s with SW winds 30-45 MPH with gusts in the 60-80 MPH range over the higher elevations.

On Wednesday day expect mostly cloudy skies over the high country with snow showers above 7000 feet. There could be several inches of snow accumulations above the 8000-foot level. Temperatures will be in the mid to upper 20s with SW winds 15-25 MPH with gusts in the 45-55 MPH range over the higher elevations.
