Welcome to MammothSnowman.com – Snow Season 2023

Thursday, March 30th @ 8 AM – Good morning, looks like Mammoth Mountain has gone over the 700-inch snowfall mark for Main Lodge as of this morning.

Just amazing how much snow there is at this point. Make sure to check out the video down the page in 4k to see what it’s like out there. There are also about 50 images I got on Friday when the sun was out that you can view at this link.

Mammoth Mountain Weather: Currently out on Mammoth Mountain up Top there is an ENE wind flow at 13 MPH with gusts to 17 MPH and a temperature of 9 degrees. Wind chill values are down to -7. Down around the Main Lodge, there is a temperature of 16 degrees with an NE wind gusting into the 7 MPH – 10 MPH range.

If you’re going to be out on Mammoth Mountain today expect mostly cloudy skies with increasing snow showers later in the day. Temperatures will start out cold in the low 20s and then come up into the mid to upper 20s by mid-day. Winds will be N to NE at 15 – 25 MPH with gusts in the 30-40 MPH range.

Friday into Sunday skies should return to sunny with highs up into the upper 20s to lower 30s with winds out of the SW and wind gusts in the 20-40 MPH range.

Road Conditions: 395 is closed at Mono Lake both North and South. However, they are doing daily escorts on that section of 395 at 7:30 AM and 4 PM Daily. In Mammoth Lakes roads are R1 with many narrow streets so please slow down.

The Mammoth Scenic Loop, Benton Crossing Road, and Upper Rock Creek Road are closed until further notice. Tioga and Sonoro Pass are closed and not expected to open until around July 4th.

Snow Surface Conditions: with 2-3 feet of new snow there was a ton of powder to be had on Wednesday, some of it was deep and light, especially in areas protected from the wind. 22 and 25 ran but that was it for steeps.

Today expect more powder action with the new snow starting to set up a bit with the NE to N flow that’s flowing over the Mountain this morning. Expect more lifts and runs to open today as the crew digs out from this late-season system.

By Friday into the weekend, all lifts and runs are expected to be open for access under clear blue skies. Looks like a windy weekend with lots of sugary snow blowing around making for some fabulous mid-winter skiing and riding in spring.

With all the snow on the ground, Mammoth Mountain announced last week that they plan to run for winter sports at the Main Lodge through at least the month of July. If there happens to be a cooler summer they plan to run longer and hopefully beat the closing day record set in 1995 on August 14th.
