Mammoth Mountain Locals Snow Report – Snow Season 24-2025
October 25th, 2024—There are just 21 days until the scheduled opener at Mammoth Mountain, which is set for Friday, November 15th, 2024, at 8:30 AM at the new Chair 1.
Over the last week, Mammoth Mountain has received two dustings of snow. The first turned the ground white above the 9500-foot level, and the second down to the Main Lodge. At the Snow Study Site, there was .11 precipitation from the first system, and a trace of snowfall from the second was recorded.
Next week, the Snowmaking Crew will have some cold air to work with. Expect the big snow fan guns to be on at night and early morning. They always start with a full effort on Broadway and then move on to the lower unbound second.

Major progress has been made at the new Broadway Express since I was on the scene a couple of weeks ago. Both the top and bottom stations have their windows installed. From what I saw this morning, they seem to be about a couple of weeks from finishing up.
When I was on-site at the project this morning, crews were in the process of building and installing the chair lifts. They are making significant progress, with half the carries built and on the line.
Over at the Unbound Express, a new drive and control system is being installed, and the top and bottom lift shacks are being rebuilt. Chair 3 also got the same upgrade, with a new lift shack at the bottom of the lift.
If you have not heard, significant upgrades were and are still being made to the Stump Alley / Mill Area snowmaking system over the summer. Brand new Super Puma Fan Guns were installed top to bottom. That will allow the Mill Parking to open quicker with much better early-season snow conditions on Stump Alley.
The snowmaking team has been out on the hill over the last week setting up for their early season snowmaking runs. If you look closely at the webcams out of Main Lodge and MC Coy Station, you will see many of the guns they set up.
Chair 1 and 16 Construction Update
Details of the Work Done Summer 2024
Chairlifts: Broadway Express—Chair 1 at Mammoth Mountain is being replaced, and completion is anticipated for the 2024/2025 Season.
The new Doppelmayr D-Line 6-seat detachable chairlift will feature in-terminal parking at the top and bottom to improve opening times on big storm days, 90-degree loading on an automated loading conveyor to ensure an efficient load process, and an uphill capacity of 3,000 passengers per hour – a 25% improvement over its predecessor.
Other upgrades are being made to modernize the mountain’s chairlifts, reducing stoppages and wait times for guests. Face Lift Express (Chair 3) and Unbound Express (Chair 6) will receive upgraded controls and new AC drives, improving efficiency and reliability.
Mammoth Snowmaking: This offseason, the Mammoth Mountain Ski Area committed $3.5M to further automate and improve its snowmaking capabilities and the system’s energy efficiency. This is in addition to the millions spent on snowmaking over the last two Summers.
The mountain added 15 SMI Super Puma fan guns on two of its most popular runs, Stump Alley and Roller Coaster, and 12 automatic Klik tower guns along Schoolyard and Chickadee.
These improvements in snowmaking will help connect terrain between base lodges, allowing for improved early-season access out of Canyon, Eagle, and Main Lodge.

Disclaimer on Snow Conditions and our Snow Reports
This is a simple disclaimer to keep us legal. First, this website is run by Mammoth Locals. We are not employees of Mammoth Mountain, but yes, they do support our efforts.
Second, Snow Conditions change by the hour, so when you read our posts or reports, please consider when they were made.
Check the date on the report before you email us! There’s nothing worse than some crybaby complaining that our conditions are not right. Yep, I get emails like that. Again, read the date, and don’t be a jerk.
Please Remember that the longer time has passed, the more the conditions have changed.
Third, what Snowman or any other member of the www.mammothsnowman.com community posts is purely based on how that person views snow conditions.
Everyone has their own perspective, so one person’s epic day might not be your epic day. For example, I love spring corn snow, but many people hate it.
Fourth, you can die skiing or snowboarding. If you’re not skilled, don’t take the runs Snowman or somebody else in the community might suggest.
Many of our videos contain extreme footage of professional athletes who ski and ride full-time. We do not endorse these activities and encourage you not to try the tricks and extreme moves the professionals make in our videos or images.
If you do, you do so of your own accord and risk, and you further understand you risk almost certain death at times!
Last but not least, thanks to the State of California, you must be 18 or older to use this website.
If you’re not 18, log off now, or we will have to call your parents to shut you down.
