Photos from the Hill 10-29 to 11-13-24
Broadway is looking nice and wide after 2 weeks of snow blowing. There is a solid base of 1-2 feet of groomed-out snow for opening day.

Wednesday was all about spreading out the large piles of snow the fan guns have laid down over the last two weeks. In the photo below the groomer is working on the lower Unbound.

The New Broadway Express is about ready to go. The lift crew has been running the lifts and getting it dialed in. They plan to do the load test next Monday, and hopefully, it will be certified and ready to go on November 22nd.

Discover Chair is scheduled to open this Saturday, and Sesame Street will be ready to go, so beginners will also have some terrain to play on.

The row of Super Puma snowmaking guns. Most people ask why they are in the middle of the run. The answer is that Slope Style Park fits just to the left of the Towers, while Broadway Run is on the right side.
The whole width of therun will be open for now, and the towers are all padded for your safety. The Slope Style Course will be built in the latter half of December.

Fascination and Andy’s Double Gold will soon see snowmaking action. During most years, these runs are a big priority for manmade snow so the Ski Teams can start training.

This pile of Manmade snow is 4-5 feet deep. The grooming crew will spread it out and use it as a base around Chair 6 and Main Lodge.

Stump Alley with 2-3 inches of snow on the ground from Monday’s snowfall. I have not heard when they plan to fire up the snowmaking on this run. Hopefully, that happens with the next pool of cold air, starting tonight.

Below is Broadway, which has a bit of the whale effect from the Fan Guns blowing tons of snow. This photo was taken off the webcam last Friday before crews started packing and spreading the snow.

This next photo was taken late last week when the cold air was in place all day. You can see they have made a lot of progress in getting snow down on Lower Saddle Bowl and the lead into the bottom of Chair 3 and MC Coy Station.

Wanted to included this webcam capture of all the snowmaking that was running last Thursday. This is what it should look like again this Tuesday morning as the cold air returns to Mammoth Mountain.

The Super Puma Fan Guns use much less energy and can produce snow even during marginal snowmaking conditions.

Here is a shot of Stump Alley before the first snow. The brand new lineup of Super Puma Snowmaking Fans can be seen here. Once these get fired up, it will take about half the time to make enough snow to get the Mill up and running.

Here is a shot of the lineup of Super Puma’s on Broadway. Over the first week of snowmaking, these tower fans ran for hours and produced the large whales seen in some of the photos.

In the late October shot, the base of the New Broadway Express ( Chair 1) was about finished. The word is that this lift could open to the public for the first time on November 22nd.

Here is a photo from early Fall from the top of the new chair 16. When I was up there, crews were grading out the dirt after removing all the trees that created the issues with unloading last season.
As you can see, there is lots of room, and you don’t have to make a quick exit turn to the right or left anymore. This will allow the lift to run at maximum speed when the crowds are out.

Hey Wholy, I can’t wait to see you all covered in deep snow again. You always need a good photo of this guy.. puts a smile on my face.
