Mountain Winds: As the gif below shows, there will be periods of gusty N to NE winds on Mammoth Mountain into Wednesday. These are cold upslope winds that blow in your face as you ski and ride down the hill. I would advise you to have face protection on upslope windy days. Expect a light wind flow from Thursday into Saturday.

Temperatures: The Upper Air Temperature Anomaly shows cooler air arriving in the Mammoth area at this time. Warming is expected midweek through Saturday before the next possible inside slider-type system brings in cooler air. ecmwf-ensemble-avg-nepac-t850_anom_stream

Long-Range Fantasy Outlook & Discussion: The 7-10-day forecast remains dry, with just above average temperatures expected on Mammoth Mountain and around the Eastern Sierra.

Looking at the Ultra Fantasy Outlook model runs, here is what they show for February. The first image is the first 7 days of February, so the trend is for snowfall. Based on what we have seen so far this season, these lower-end totals could verify. A foot of snowfall over a week would refresh the surface conditions on the hill.

To note again, this is the Ultra Fantasy Outlook, and all we are really looking for is upcoming trends

Hopefully, in the next week or two, we will start to see that on the longer-range model trends heading towards wet across the entire state.

Forever Hopefull for a series of Powder Storms, Steve Taylor – the Mammoth Snowman
