Sunday, January 26th, 2025, @ Noon

WX Summary: This afternoon, a low presure system is moving down the coast. Expect snow showers with a dusting to an inch or two of additional snowfall on Mammoth Mountain and around the Eastern Sierra. This system was a cold one when the front went through last night, with snow on the ground in Bishop as of noon today.

If you’re out on the hill on Monday, expect mostly cloudy skies with a 40% chance of snow showers with a dusting of accumulation expected at best.

Temperatures at the first chair will be in the teens, and midday temperatures will be in the lower to mid-20s from Main Lodge down to Canyon Lodge. Over the Mid and Upper Mountain, midday temperatures will be in the lower twenties.

Winds at the 9000-foot level will be North, around 10 mph. Up top, winds are expected to be northeast, 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 – 40 mph.

On Tuesday, expect clear skies.  Temperatures at the first chair will be in the low teens, and midday temperatures will be in the low 30s from Main Lodge down to Canyon Lodge. Over the Mid and Upper Mountain, midday temperatures will be in the mid-20s.

Winds at the 9000-foot level will be out of the North at around 5 mph to 10 mph. Up top winds are expected to be out of the North at 10-20 mph, with gusts to 30 mph possible.

MSLP / Snowfall GIF from the NAM: Light Snow continues at times over the mid and upper mountain into the day on Monday.

10-Day Snowfall Forecast: More snow is expected to move in by the first weekend of February.

10-Day QPF Forecast GIF: Mammoth Mountain will receive more snowfall by next weekend. Most of the water in the forecast below is for days 5 through 7.

15-Day Total Snowfall Outlook: This is a long way out for an operational model. However, when they both agree like this, it’s worth a mention. Ensembles, of course, show about half these amounts. We like the trend towards wet weather, with a decent AR band moving through around days 10 through 15.

Longer-range weather Discussion: After mid-week ridging, the next low will affect the area by late Friday. The operational models show a moderate to strong system with a possible AR hook-up at some point. Hopefully, the AR hook-up will still be there when I update the more extended range again later next Wednesday. After what is hopefully a large dump, there will be some more ridging before more snowfall is expected mid February.

Forever Hopefull for a series of Powder Storms, Steve Taylor – the Mammoth Snowman
