Mammoth Mountain Weather Forecast & Discusion

January 30th, 2025 @ 8 AM – A new series of storm systems is about to hit the area. Over the next 7-10+ days, Mammoth is looking to possibly pick up 3-5 feet of heavy base snow. This is just what we need to refresh the base and restart the winter.

As of this morning models have Mammoth Mountain on the southern edge of the forecast AR band; however, if the band sinks south a bit, the snowfall amounts expected could double.

Over the weekend, expect light to moderate snowfall at times, with snow levels starting around 7500-8000 feet and rising to 9000 to 9500 feet Saturday night and 9000 feet on Sunday. Snow ratios will be low, with heavy, wet snow falling. Rain is possible on the lower mountain due to the high snow levels.

The first call on weekend accumulations is 6-15 inches above the 9,500-foot level (MC Coy Station to the Top). 3-5 inches are expected around Main Lodge, with limited accumulations below the Mill.

NBM Weekend Snowfall Forecast

Next week, a stronger system appears in the outlook period days 5-7. This system has a stronger AR band than the weekend system however snow levels will still be above the 7,500 to 8000 foot level.

The big question that remains is how far south will that AR band reach next and for what duration of time would Mammoth Mountain be under its influence?
