
Mammoth Mountain Weather Forecast & Discusion

WX Summary:
The next in a series of storm systems will move into the area this evening.
From Main Lodge to the top of Mammoth Mountain, expect 1 to 3 feet of heavy wet snow. For Mammoth Lakes, snowfall amounts are forecast to be in the 4-6 inch range, with 2-3 inches expected along Highway 395.
With this system, snowfall ratios will be around 8-1 (meaning 8 inches of snow will melt down to about 1 inch of water).
A second storm will be moving in very early on Thursday, with more moderate to heavy snowfall and possibly an additional couple of feet of snow up on Mammoth Mountain.
The forecast for the upcoming weekend is looking sweet, with clearing skies and bluebird skies.

If you’re out on the hill today, expect increasing clouds and winds during the day. Midday temperatures will be in the upper 30s to lower 40s from Main Lodge down to Canyon Lodge. Over the Mid and Upper Mountain (9500 to 11,000 feet), midday temperatures will be in the low to mid-30s.
Winds at the 9000-foot level will be out of the Southwest at 15-20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Up top winds are expected to be out of the Southwest at 35 to 40 mph, with gusts as high as 55 mph.
On Tuesday, expect snowfall moderate to heavy at times above the 8000-foot level. Lower elevations will see light to moderate snowfall at times.
From Main Lodge down to Canyon Lodge, midday temperatures will be in the mid-30s. Over the Mid and Upper Mountain (9500 to 11,000 feet), midday temperatures will be in the low to mid-30s.
Winds at the 9000-foot level will be out of the Southwest at 15-20 mph, with gusts as high as 25-30 mph. Up top winds are expected to be out of the Southwest at 25 to 30 mph, with gusts as high as 45-55 mph.
On Wednesday, expect possible snowfall early in the morning, followed by clearing by midday. Winds will be up, as the next system will be right on the heels of the first storm – more details in tomorrow’s update.
