Mammoth Mountain Snow Report from the Snowman

4-22-2024 – Up on Mammoth Mountain Spring Operations as now in effect with the Snow Surface fully into the freeze-thaw cycle. The Spring Snow Base at the Snow Study Site (9000 Feet) is 81.3 inches, with 41.38 inches of seasonal precipitation and 350 inches of snow this season. Up Top, the base is around 120 inches, with 100 inches at MC Coy.

Here is what’s running this mid-week, Lifts 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 11, 23, and Gondolas 1 and 2. The Canyon Lodge parking area along with chair 17 will run again this weekend and then that will be it for this season.

Lift Hours through next Sunday are from 8:30 AM to 4 PM, I would expect the mountain to start to adjust operating hours as soon as next Monday. Chair 1 is Now Closed for the season as they are replacing this lift with a new 6-pack chair lift. Crews need to start construction now so the new lift will be ready to run by mid-December.

Snow Conditions: The snow is going to be fast and firm to start each morning this week. As the sun comes up and temperatures warm up quickly the next couple of days the snow should be perfect spring corn snow from 9:30 AM to around 2 PM.

If you’re not used to spring skiing and riding the snow starts to get soft down on Stump Alley first and then as the sun does its magic the other lower runs get soft and then the mid-mountain with the top the last to soften up.

The ski area also spreads a snow freeze product on the runs to help keep the snow from getting too soft and sticky. During the warmer days moving forward, you will see the cat crew spreading that mix out like fertilizer on the slopes.

With spring and the freeze and thaw cycle underway, my advice is to wax up nightly with a clear universal wax. Having some texture added to your base for a small charge at Fast Ski Sports can also help channel the water and snow from creating that sticky feeling underfoot on warm days.

The other option is the Free Hot Wax Coupon you can use at Fast Ski Sports in the Vons Mall. Just take your gear and tell them the Mammoth Snowman sent you in for a Free Hot Wax.

Disclaimer on Snow Conditions and our Snow Reports

This is a simple disclaimer to keep us legal. First, this website is run by Mammoth Locals, we are not employees of Mammoth Mountain, but yes they do support our efforts.

Second, Snow Conditions change by the hour, so when you read our posts please consider when the post or report was made.

Check the date on the report before you email us! Nothing worse than some crybaby complaining that our conditions are not right. Yep, I get emails like that, again read the date, and don’t be a jerk.

Please Remember that the longer time has passed, the more the conditions have changed.

Third, what Snowman or any other member of the www.mammothsnowman.com community posts is purely based on how that person views snow conditions.

Everyone looks at things in their own view, so one person’s epic might not be your epic day. For example, I love spring corn snow but many people hate it.

Fourth you can die skiing or snowboarding, if you’re not skilled don’t take the runs Snowman or somebody else in the community might suggest.

Many of our videos contain extreme footage by professional athletes that ski and ride full time. We do not endorse these activities and encourage you not to try the tricks and extreme moves the professionals make in our videos and or images.

If you do, you do so of your own accord and risk and you further understand you risk almost certain death at times!

And last but not least thanks to the State of California you must be 18 or older to use this website.

If you’re not 18 log off now or we will have to call your parents to shut you down. 🙂
