Mammoth Mountain to Bishop Mountain Bike Report

Footloose Sports - Discount Tuesdays8-15-2019 – It’s a great Thursday here in the Eastern Sierra. There is a bit of haze and there was some light smoke in the air on my ride down in Bishop this morning. SW winds coming in the next few days will push any smoke out of the area.

So far Mammoth has been spared from the smoke so far this Summer. One of the best Summers ever for clear sky days with no smoke.

With all that clear air, Mountain Bikes and Road Bikers have been loving life with long lung-busting sessions for weeks now.

Snowman is getting back into the bike scene after several years of not riding at all. Got a bike after hurting my knee and now it’s back to riding almost daily down here in Bishop.

As I get back in shape I plan on covering all the trails I used to ride from Bishop to June Lake over the next couple years.

The goal is to do a trip report for each ride, for now, I am riding roads in Bishop getting my biking legs back.

Mammoth Mountain Bike Park Report

Most trails are now open and are in prime shape as park crews have been working hard for over 2 months clearing and raking the dirt for a smooth ride.  The bike park is open from 9 AM till 6 PM daily into mid-September. per MM “The bike park has 3 lifts running daily, with Stump Alley Express [Chair 2] and Canyon Express [Chair 16] operating Fri-Sun.”

Free Mountain Bike Rides: Uptown, the first mile and a half are free-riding on that trail and then you can loop back to town via Downtown or hit up the Mountain View Trail for a long ride to the Minaret Vista.

Cross Country Trails in the bike park are ride able after 6 PM. Please respect the bike park and do wait till 6 if you’re going for a cross country ride. Beware there will still be people bombing downhill right at 6 PM and a beyond that.

Inyo Forest Trails and Service Roads: There are endless roads and some cool single track biking out on the Inyo Forest. Use this link to get information and a map for riding in this area.

Bishop and Round Valley are heating up now, riding down in the valley early mornings will be the call as highs move into the 90s now for the foreseeable future.

Now is a great time to come up and get some Mountain Biking and Summer Sports in.
