Mammoth Mountain Snow Report from the Snowman

3-17-24 @ 8 AM – Here is an update from Saturday, the NE winds have effected the snow on upper mountain. You will find lots of the so called upslope wind cupping on many of the runs up top.

There are some really nice flat a smooth sections still out there but you want to pick and choose your line carefully until the SW winds return and fill in all the ruff surfaces. The best snow up top right now in in the Drop Outs, you can see the smooth wind buff from the MC Coy Station Webcam. The snow surface in there is mostly flat with a firm carvable base that has some nice sugar snow starting to flow around again.

The groomers are a bit firm early and then loosen up to a very nice carvable surface by mid-morning. The best runs at the start of each day are the groomed runs from Canyon Lodge to Main Lodge. Once those runs are skied up, you will find plenty of fresh corduroy on the runs accessed from chair 12. Over by chair 9 in the East Bowl, I would wait till mid-morning when the direct sun has softened up the snow on those runs.

The Unbound Parks are all built out 100% right now and are in perfect shape for multiple laps of fun and air time.

>>> Also note for a short time, you can renew your Ikon Pass at the lowest possible price. If you’re buying the Ikon Pass for the first time, you can start using it at Mammoth on April 1st this year. Here is the special Snowman link to get your Ikon Pass today.

Many people are asking about Closing Day at Little Eagle and Canyon Lodges. This season, the last day for lifts will be April 14th. There is no word yet on whether Canyon will be open on weekends to help with parking issues.

Also, the Replace Chair 1 Project is now expected to start on Monday, April 15th. This spring, you will need to ride the Gondola or chair 6 to leave the Main Lodge area.

Last but not least, as of today, I have not heard of any set date for when the mountain plans to close for the season. From my perspective, they are good to go through at least May, if not into early June. It will all depend on the weather and whether the area warms up early this spring.

Mammoth Mountain & Mammoth Lakes Shuttle Service: All winter shuttle routes will remain open through April 14th, and then the Spring Schedules will begin at that time. Here is a link to all the Shuttle Information you need for the rest of winter and the upcoming spring season.

Disclaimer on Snow Conditions and our Snow Reports

This is a simple disclaimer to keep us legal. First, this website is run by Mammoth Locals, we are not employees of Mammoth Mountain, but yes they do support our efforts.

Second, Snow Conditions change by the hour, so when you read our posts please consider when the post or report was made.

Check the date on the report before you email us! Nothing worse than some crybaby complaining that our conditions are not right. Yep, I get emails like that, again read the date, and don’t be a jerk.

Please Remember that the longer time has passed, the more the conditions have changed.

Third, what Snowman or any other member of the www.mammothsnowman.com community posts is purely based on how that person views snow conditions.

Everyone looks at things in their own view, so one person’s epic might not be your epic day. For example, I love spring corn snow but many people hate it.

Fourth you can die skiing or snowboarding, if you’re not skilled don’t take the runs Snowman or somebody else in the community might suggest.

Many of our videos contain extreme footage by professional athletes that ski and ride full time. We do not endorse these activities and encourage you not to try the tricks and extreme moves the professionals make in our videos and or images.

If you do, you do so of your own accord and risk and you further understand you risk almost certain death at times!

And last but not least thanks to the State of California you must be 18 or older to use this website.

If you’re not 18 log off now or we will have to call your parents to shut you down. 🙂
