Host a Mammoth Snowman Webcam
Help Share the Beauty of Mammoth Lakes
We’re looking for a few private Mammoth homeowners (Non HOA) who want to be part of the Mammoth Snowman Webcam Network.
If you’ve got a great view and you love sharing Mammoth with others, this is a simple way to pay it forward and be part of something that benefits locals and visitors alike.
This program is designed for people who want to give back to the community. Your participation helps thousands of travelers, and people who cannot be here check the weather, road conditions, and mountain views every day through our growing webcam system.
What Makes a Good Host Location?
We’re looking for homes that offer:
- Scenic mountain views, or
- Clear views of main routes for real-time road conditions
Privacy is important. We do not stream footage of private homes, backyards, decks, or neighbor property. Public roads, forest views, and commercial areas are perfect.
You can remain completely anonymous if you prefer, and your address is never disclosed.
How the Hosting Process Works
1. Intro Conversation
We talk through the basic hosting requirements and answer all your questions.
2. Pick the Camera Location
If you decide to move forward, we will choose the best spot in your home for the webcam.
3. Professional Installation
My licensed and insured local electrician will mount the webcam and small backing box at the agreed-upon location.
4. Cable Run
The webcam requires a line from your modem for both power and internet.
The installer will drill a small hole—similar to a cable TV install—to run the POE cable outside.
5. POE Power Box Setup
Inside, a small black box (about 3–4 inches) plugs into your modem and a standard 110V outlet to power the camera.
Installation takes about 90 minutes.
Bandwidth & Internet Use
Your webcam sends one feed to our secure host server at MammothSnowman.com.
That server delivers the stream to viewers, which keeps your connection from being overloaded.
The camera uses up to 3 Mbps of upload bandwidth, which typically does not interfere with normal internet use.
Your modem must remain on 24/7 to keep the webcam online.
Privacy Protection
We take privacy seriously:
- No private yards, decks, or windows
- No neighboring homes without written permission
- No HOA-governed condo properties
- Only scenic, public, or roadway views
Public business districts and major roads are acceptable. Private residential property is not.
Monetization & Transparency
To cover expenses for labor, equipment, hosting, server bandwidth, and maintenance, I plan to monetize live-stream webcam views.
This allows the network to survive financially, grow, and support future upgrades, such as higher-quality live-streaming webcams that pan and zoom and offer subscriber-only features.
