Recreation & Event Report

Thursday, September 15th, 2024 @ 5 PM – What To Do in Mammoth Lakes and the Southern Eastern Sierra.

Local Area Summer Access Roads: The Lake Mary Road into the Mammoth Lakes Basin is open and clear to Lake George and Horseshoe Lake. Rock Creek Road is open to the Mesquite Flats Trailhead, giving you access to the entire Canyon. Bishop Creek Canyon (Hwy 168) is open to Lake Sabrina and South Lake.

Scenic Gondola Rides: Add a ride to the top of Mammoth Mountain to your Eastern Sierra Summer Bucket list. There’s nothing like being up at 11,000 feet during the warm days of Summer. This one is a must for everyone. If you have a winter Ikon Pass, you can ride up for Free.

Campgrounds: Here is a link to the USFS Camping page, where you can find out what is open and what is not.

Minaret Vista: The viewpoint and day-use picnic area are open. It’s a perfect spot for lunch and some photos. The Vista is 3.5 miles up Highway 203 from the Main Lodge at the Mammoth Mountain Ski Area.

Reds Meadow Shuttle and Road Access: The Forest Service has contractors trying to finish up the total rebuild of the road in the Valley this Summer. For this season only, the Shuttle Bus to Reds will only run Fridays – Sundays.

It will be the same if you want to drive into the Valley. Expect the road to be all dirt, as they are rebuilding from the ground up. It’s not the year to take an RV down in that area, IMHO. Here is the Forest Service link for more information.

The Mammoth Lakes Basin is ready for Summer fun. Come up for some paddle boarding, fishing, hiking, and camping. Here is the link for more information.

The Mammoth Lakes Paved Trail System Is wide open and cleaned Up for the Summer of 2024. Here is a link for more information, along with a video ride up into the Mammoth Lakes Basin.

Woolly’s Adventure Park is open and ready for Summer Tubing. The Mountain Roller Coaster is also open. However, please use caution at the park as construction is still underway. Here is the link to more information.
