Friday, September 16th, 2022 @ 7:15 AM – Good morning, you will find haze skies today over Mammoth Mountain and the High Country of the Eastern Sierra. Look for the haze to blow out tonight for a nice weekend.

The weekend is looking like a great time to get out for a hike or a mountain bike ride. Temperatures have cooled off now and it feels like early Fall.

As the weather gets cooler you can expect the first Fall colors to start to pop in the highest elevations in a couple of weeks.

Also to note folks, if you have been thinking about getting some lift-served laps in the Mountain Bike Park you have until Sunday to do it after that it’s peddling time.

Mammoth Weather: Checking around the area Up Top the temperature is 37, at Main Lodge the temperature is 38. Down in Mammoth Lakes, the temperature is sitting at 40 with winds to 2 MPH out of the west. In Crowley Lake, the temp is 36 with a 46 in Bishop.

For today expect hazy skies with light winds and highs at Main Lodge and in the Lakes Basin in the upper 50s to low 60s by mid-day. Lows will be in the upper 30s to 40s. Temperatures come down 5 degrees on Saturday and 5 more degrees by Sunday.

Area wide winds shift to out of the south tonight and that will blow some cleaner air our way for the weekend.

Video Player: Our mountain video reports will be returning next week with updates on current upgrades, the weather, and what to do this Fall. We will add in some Fall Color drives when the timing is right.

For now, there are 38 videos on the playlist below along with the Mammoth Mountain Live Webcams. You will find 4K, HD and SD videos on the list. Enjoy the show!

Mountain Bike Report: Now that the rain has come through the mountain biking rides are going to be even more spectacular. The next few days will be brown Pow days on all local Eastern Sierra trails. Get out there if you can and ride the nice grippy dirt.

Looks like some more light rain is possible Monday / Tuesday with a dusting of snow on bike trails above the 9000-foot level is possible.

For the full details on Mountain Biking and the conditions in the area check out our full report at this link.

Mammoth Mountain Winter: Just 57 days until winter operations start. There is a ton of work taking place right now with most of the focus on the snowmaking system repairs and upgrades.

To learn more about what’s happening with upgrades and the ramp-up to winter operations check in with our Mammoth Mountain Locals Snow Report page.

Things to Do into in Mammoth Lakes & the Eastern Sierra

9-15-22 – The Fall Recreation season is on up here in Mammoth Lakes and across the Eastern Sierra. The Summer crowds are gone now and mid-weeks are slow during this time of year called the shoulder season. If you can it’s a great time to come up and experience the area at this time of year.

Up at Mammoth Mountain, they plan to run the Adventure Center, the Bike Park Lifts and the Scenic Gondola Rides through September 18th. The park is closing a bit early so the mountain can focus on getting their upgrades done in time for the winter season.

After the 18th you can still hike and mountain bike out on the hill, you just need to stay out of the construction zones.

The Fall Color Season will get underway later this month in the very upper elevations with a slow-down canyon turn expected into mid to late October. Already seeing some overnight lows in the long-range forecast that will help to start the change.

We will be going out every Tuesday looking for Fall colors and reporting back each Wednesday starting on 9-20-22. Areas that will be covered will be Bishop Creek Canyon, Rock Creek Canyon, MC Gee Creek Canyon, the June Lake Loop, and the Mammoth Lakes Area. Here is the link to our Fall Color Report Page.
