February 8th, 2024 @ 7:40 AM – Good morning; Mammoth Mountain picked more fresh snow overnight, with 7-10 inches new. Last night snowfall had ratios in the 12-1 range. With that in mind, you can expect more great fresh powder turns as lifts get fired up this morning.

Taking a look at your window cast this morning, there are cloudy skies over Mammoth Mountain. Up Top, the temperature is 9 degrees with an SSE wind at 29 MPH, gusting to 36 MPH with a wind chill of -13.  Down in the Main Lodge area, the temperature is 18 degrees, with winds at the top of chair 1 out of the NE at 9 MPH, gusting to 14 MPH.

The snowfall total at the Sesame Street Snow Study Site over the last 24 hours is 8 inches, and the current snow depth at the SS Site is now at 86 inches. Up top, there is a base of 100-120 inches with 10+ inches of fresh snow.

Travel & Road Forecast: (R1) or Chain and Snow Tires Required on Highway 395 from 17 miles north of Bishop. Light snow did reach all the way down to Bishop overnight.

Highway 203 and all town roads are (R1), or Chain and Snow Tires are Required. R2 Conditions are in place between Mammoth and the June Lake Exits on Highway 395. If you’re traveling up for the weekend, look for the 395 to be back to pavement by Friday afternoon, if not later today.

Mammoth Mountain Snow Report from the Snowman

February 8th, 2024 @ 8 AM – It’s a world in white up here with a base of 80-120+ inches from the Main Lodge up to the Top of the mountain. With last night’s fresh snowfall, it will take a bit of time to get lifts up and running today.

Once they do run the snow conditions should be great with the fresh 12-1 ratio snow that fell last night. If you’re looking for early morning fresh on the steeps head over to chair 22 for some laps.

For you groomed run lovers, everything that was groomed out last night has fresh snow on top. It does look like they did groom the runs this morning over at lifts 15, 16, and 17.

If the clouds clear out a bit ski patrol will be able to get to work on avalanche control on the mid and upper mountain and then hopefully those lifts can open and run again.

Mammoth is having Fabulous February so far, and that means it’s time to get up here and make some turns as Blue Bird conditions look to arrive for the weekend and into the middle of next week.

Below is a photo from the lower Avy 2 Area, you can see the new chair 16 in this photo as well. There has been a mix of powder and wind-buffed-out powder in Avy 2 and 3 over the last several days. Been a lot of hero snow during the morning hours during this storm cycle.

The top and the back side runs along with Chair 9 have been closed since Sunday. It does look like there is a possibility that the top and chair 9 will clear out enough to open by mid-day today. We need to see some clearing soon so that can happen today. If not it will be Friday before those areas open up.

If you take a look at the images below you can see the top has been caked with 7-8 feet of fresh snowfall over the last 10 days. All that snow has settled down into a come-back winter base. Just think out sweet the turns will be there when it opens again. Add in more snow tonight and it’s going to be great for the people who get in there when it opens next.

I have not mentioned the 14 area much this season, but with all the new snow that has fallen that area is going off once again. Here are a couple of photos from the back side of one of our Facebook Group Members.

The Chair 9 area when it reopens Thursday or Friday  should be great. There is a shot from the trees in the area from last Saturday, add in 5-6 feet of new base out there and Yahoo some of those insanely tight trees will be buried now.

Below is a shot of the Center Bowl off of the Face Lift Express (Chair 3). Once this is groomed out again you’re going to find some perfect corduroy to make some fun turns on. So glad to see Center Bowl and the entire face of 3 all filled in again, there are tons of lines you can rip up now.

The runs over on the High Five Express have a great base now as well. This shot from Boarder Dan on Saturday Morning is from the Ride Line just off of Upper Solitude. Once the sun comes out again, I will get you all a fresh photo of the full face of five. Hopefully, that will be this Friday morning when maybe the sun will be out again.

Here is a look at Climax before storm system number 2 came through dropping over 5 feet of new snow in here. No idea if Climax has slid or not the last few days. As soon as skies clear out on Friday I hope to get a fresh photo of the Climax and Dave’s Run areas.
