February 15th, 2024 @ 6:00 AM – Good morning; 6-12+ inches of fresh 10-1 ratios snow out on Mammoth Mountain this morning with snow showers still coming down. Look for clearing by late morning or afternoon, with most of the hill could possibly open by midday.
That was the first system in a series that will move through the area with off-and-on snow at times over the next week. With 99 inches of snow already falling this month this series of systems will put Mammoth Mountain well over the 100-inch snowfall mark for the month of February.
Taking a look at your window cast this morning, there are cloudy skies with snow showers. Up Top, the temperature is 14 degrees with an S wind at 59 MPH, gusting to 70 MPH with a wind chill of -13. Down in the Main Lodge area, the temperature is 21 degrees, with winds at the top of chair 1 out of the WSW at 31 MPH, gusting to 75 MPH.
Travel & Road Forecast: Chains or Snow Tires are required from Toms Place up to Mammoth Lakes and to all the ski lodges this morning. I would expect the R1 conditions on 395 to be gone by tonight. If you plan to drive up late Sunday into Tuesday, travel looks to be slow from Bishop to Mammoth, so be prepared. Mammoth Mountain Weather Forecast
If you’re heading out to the hill today, look for snow showers with mid-day temperatures in the upper 20s to lower 30s. Snowfall totals from this first system look to be in the 6-12 inch range for the powder fields of Mammoth Mountain, maybe an inch more, and the snow will be moving out.
For those coming up this weekend, expect light snowfall on Saturday with a bit of a break from the snow but not the wind on Sunday; by Presidents Day, you can expect moderate to heavy snowfall.
Mammoth Mountain Snow Report from the Snowman
February 14th, 2024 @ 12 PM – Wind Buff Alert for today: There has been some nice wind blowing out on the hill with your favorite soft sugar blowing around, making for a smooth surface in spots.

On Tuesday, I skied from Little Eagle over to Chair 12 and then made laps off the top. Everything was packed out, and it was a blast to ride. All the groomers were in fantastic shape, with the surface now a machine-groomed winter pack. There is definitely some nice snow to ski on, with soft sugar blowing over many of the surface areas.
Up top, they have started grooming Scotties, and it has been good with fewer people on the run than the other groomers on the hill. Cornice Bowl, with the base it has, is now being groomed extra wide. The line down the skier’s left has been perfect. The sunshine on that side of Cornice lets the snow get just a bit softer by mid-morning.

The snow conditions moving forward. It looks like some decent powder day on Thursday. By Friday, skies will clear out with miles of packed powder groomers and leftover powder turns for those who go off the beaten path. Saturday should start with the mountain wide open with increasing clouds and winds. There should be some fun sugar snow blowing around with snow showers freshening up the conditions during the afternoon hours.
For those who love miles of packer powder groomers, Friday and Saturday look like great days for you. Those runs should all have some nice soft-packed powder for your groomer laps. Snow conditions on Sunday depend on how much snow a quick-hitting frontal band drops on Saturday night.
For you Riders of the Storm, the outlook for Monday into Wednesday is calling for some moderate to possibly deep powder out on Lincoln Mountain. We will keep an eye on the weather and update you throughout the weekend on how much snow could fall. If the outlook holds, operations early next week will be limited to lower mountain lifts, with 22 running for Storm Riders as the wind allows.
