February 20th, 2024 @ 7:40 AM – It’s a winter wonderland on Mammoth Mountain and around the Eastern Sierra today. Storm totals came in around 18-22 inches of fresh with nearly 2 inches of water content. That gives Mammoth a base of 90-140 inches from Main Lodge to the Top of Mammoth Mountain. The current snow line in the area is at the Top of the Sherwin Grade / Toms Place. Today should be a great day to get some fresh turns in, as the storm has left the area earlier than expected.

Checking the current conditions on the hill, the temperature is 21 degrees at Main Lodge, with winds at the Top of Chair 1 out of the SSE at 8 mph with gusts to 21 mph. Up Top, the temperature is 14 with an S wind at 30 mph, gusting to 36 mph, with a wind chill of -6 this morning.

Travel & Road Forecast: Highway 203 and all roads in Mammoth Lakes are R1 / Chains or Snow Tires Required. Looking at the current forecast, I don’t see any more chain controls this week on 395, so traveling up should not be a problem. If you want to check out the 395 and 203 webcams in one place, check out our road conditions page at this link.

Mammoth Mountain Snow Report from the Snowman

2-19-2024 – As of 3 PM at the Snow Study Site at the 9000-foot level, there are 18 inches of new snow with 1.86 inches of water content, with the snow ratio at around 10-1. Over the Powder Fields of Mammoth Mountain, there is an estimated 20-24 inches of fresh snow.

The base at 9000 feet is now at 92.2 inches, with an estimated base of 130-140+ inches over the top. The seasonal snowfall total at the snow study site is around 218* inches. *Will confirm totals once we get an update from Ski Patrol.

On Tuesday expect a slow start to overall lift operations, the lower mountain lifts will open first and then chair 22. Later in the morning, chairs 3 and 5 should pop with G2, 23, and 9 opening mid-day after Ski Patrol gets done with avalanche control.

For you groomer lovers, there should be lots of groomed runs on Tuesday. Some of those groomers could have a couple of inches of fresh powder on top, depending on what time the grooming crew packs them out.

Should be a blast out there on Tuesday once lifts get opened, do beware that the snow is more of a base snow and is heavy so go fat and wide for the most enjoyment.

Ski Ya Later, Snowman

PS: I plan on getting fresh photos from all areas of the hill on Thursday along with a fresh video snow report. Been out of the game and resting up after some oral surgery. That will be the first chance I get to catch up. I can’t wait to be back out there shredding with Hurley, Flaskman, and you all again. I also got a pocket of stickers if anybody wants one. 🙂
