Good Morning, this is Snowman with your local’s Snow Report for Mammoth Mountain on Wednesday, March 9th, 2022 @ 8:19 AM.

Clear bluebird skies are the rule up here at Mammoth Mountain today.  Look for highs in the mid-30s over the upper elevations with upper 30s to low 40s from Main Lodge down to the Canyon Lodge area.

The SW wind flow is back with just lighter winds for the lower elevation at 5-15 MPH with winds on the mid and upper mountain in the 25-40 MPH range.

.

The groomers are back to mid-winter-packed snow with miles and miles of corduroy ready to go each morning. If you wait till around 9:30 to 10 am the runs have loosened up just enough for a softer winter carve.

During the midweeks there are no crowds this season so most of the groomers stay fast and flat without the lumpy effect taking over.

On the upper mountain, the NE winds have buffed out a lot of the snow surface. You will find some funky sections that are not flat so watch your step especially right near the top of the hill with the NE winds have had the most effect.

Sign Line, Drop Out 1 and Wipe Out 1 are all a ton of fun right now with mid-winter packed powder that’s getting loosened up by direct morning sunshine they are getting this time of the year.

Of course, Cornice Bowl is groomed and is offering up some fine chalky packed snow, you will want to do several laps in here. Try linking this run-up with Gremlins Gulch to St Anton.

Avy 1 and 2 are getting afternoon sunshine now with the snow in those areas being some fun carvable wind buff when the sun is shining in there.

The snow on the Face of Five and Middle Dry Creek is also a blast mid-day.

For those planning to be out on Thursday, it looks like there could be some light snowfall tonight into Thursday morning with 0-1 inch of snow possible along with cooler conditions and very gusty winds again.

Winds on Thursday will be northeast @ 45 to 55 mph, with gusts as high as 100+ mph over the top. Expect wind holds up top and mid-mountain and maybe even around Main Lodge.

By Friday in Saturday, the sun will be back and the winds will have back off again for some wonderful skiing and riding once again.

If you’re reading this my advice is to get on up here for some winter fun before we move into the spring season.

…Yes, it can still snow in spring so don’t count out more winter snowpack days and hopefully some powder days too.

Snowman will be back out on the hill on Friday, hope to see you out there. PS Got a bunch of photos and video clips on Tuesday that I will be posting up today so check back after working for more content from Mammoth Mountain.
