Recreational Weather Report for Mammoth Mountain & the Eastern Sierra

Weather Forecast Overview: The first in a series of weather systems is heading thru the area today.
No snowfall with this one just high winds with 100+ mph gusts happening up at the Summit of Mammoth Mountain thru most of the day.
Monday there will be short wave ridging with less wind and mostly clear skies.
By Tuesday the next weak system will be heading our way with some snow showers possible late on Tuesday into Tuesday night.
As that system moves off the east on Wednesday expect a North to NE flow with some chilly temperatures.
The next short wave ridge moves thru Thursday into late Friday.
Saturday looks to be possible to start calm, but SW winds will pick up in front of the first decent cold front we have seen in a long time.
This one is a quick mover so unless it slowdowns snowfall amounts will be well under afoot.
Lot’s can and will change with the forecast for the system next weekend. It will be fun to track out it developed over the next few days.
If you’re going to be out on the hill on Monday expect highs in the 40s with SW winds 10-15 MPH with gusts to 25 MPH increasing during the afternoon hours.
On Tuesday expect Pt Cloudy to have Mostly cloudy skies with a chance of snow showers with a dusting of snowfall. Winds will be in the 35-55 ranges around Main with strong gusts over the upper terrain.
Lower elevations:
Mammoth Lakes & Crowley Lake: Highs on Monday will be in the low 50s with nighttime lows into the 20s. Winds will be SW at 5-10 MPH at times. On Tuesday highs will come down into the mid to upper 40s with a chance of a stray rain or snow shower.
Bishop and Mill Pond: Highs on Monday will be in the low 70s with upper 60s on Tuesday. Lows at night are in the mid-30s with light winds on Monday and then NW winds on Tuesday 10 -20 MPH.
Extended Outlook: Looking ahead to the first week of spring, a ridge of high pressure will build into the area for 3-5 days.
That will bring highs on the mountain well into the 40s to low 50s with low to mid-70s down in the Millpond and Bishop areas.
As I stated last week winter is done and gone folks. Yes, we can still see some spring snowstorms in the area, but with the La Niña not fading I am not expecting much.
Let’s hope we get a big surprise at some point.
