Mammoth Mountain Weather Forecast & Discussion
February 15th, 2024 @ 9 AM – Good morning; the first system in a series of storms has made its way through the area with 6-12+ inches of new snow on the ground from Canyon Lodge up to the top of the Mountain. Winds and clouds will decrease later this morning, allowing more lifts and runs to open.
The next weak system moves through later on Saturday into Saturday Night. The third and what looks to be the strongest in the series hits Sunday night into Tuesday. QPF for that last system looks to be in the 2-3 inches range with 20-30+ inches of new snow possible.
The longer range outlooks keeps the off and snowfall going right through this month, with March also starting to look to begin with some snow. Currently, the Mountain has picked up 99 inches of snowfall this month at the 9000-foot snow study site, so it’s looking like well over 100 inches for February; let’s hope there will be a repeat of those totals in March.
If you’re heading out to the hill today, look for snow showers with mid-day temperatures in the upper 20s around the Main Lodge and lower 30s down at Canyon and Eagle Lodges. I’m not expecting more than a dusting to an inch of fresh this morning.
Friday looks great with pt cloudy skies and light winds out of the SW at 10-15 mph at times. Temperatures by mid-day look to climb into the upper 20s to lower 30s with mid-30s down at Canyon and Eagle Lodges.
For those coming up this weekend, expect light snowfall on Saturday with a bit of a break from the snow but not the wind on Sunday; by Presidents Day, you can expect moderate to heavy snowfall will be possible again.

Snow Study Site & Eastern Sierra Snow Pillow
The seasonal snowfall for February at the Sesame Street Snow Study Site is at 99 inches this morning with a base of 81 inches. Total Precipitation this season is around 22.5 inches of water with 189 inches of snowfall. Up top there is a base of 100-120+ inches with some great coverage.
