Mammoth Mountain Recreational Weather & Travel Forecast

4-7-2024 @  9:25 AM – Good morning; the roller coaster of Mammoth spring weather is upon us now.

The low that moved through and dropped 2-3 feet of new snow on Mammoth Mountain has moved well off to the east. The next low (a hybrid inside slider) will move through the area over the next 24 hours.

This system will have little to no moisture to work with, there could be a few clouds with some scattered snow showers later today into the nighttime hours, but that is about it.

As the low drops to our SE early Monday, it will kick up some moderate NE winds through Tuesday. By Wednesday, a quick-moving ridge of high pressure will move through the area, kicking up mid-day temperatures by 8-12 degrees into Thursday.

Models predict a weak to moderate low by next Friday and Saturday. Our trusted EPS Ensemble model has the strongest outcome right now, with 8-12+ inches of snow showing up. As of this Sunday morning, other models are weaker in their solutions for snowfall.

Way out in the 8-10 and 10-15 Day Fantasy Outlook periods, the next ridge of High Pressure looks to move in and be locked in place for a week or more. Since it’s Spring, don’t be surprised if a weak to moderate low sneaks into the forecast period as we move closer to that time frame.
