Snowmaking continues to run full on nightly into the early morning hours. Snowmaking is taking place on Broadway, Rusty’s, Silver Tip, Andy’s Double Gold and one beginner run.

The forecast for snowmaking calls for good snowmaking conditions nightly over the next 3-4 days and then ok snowmaking conditions. For our weather forecast scroll down the page past today’s photos.

Mammoth Mountain Weather: Today’s Mammoth Mountain weather forecast is calling for a high in the 40s at Main Lodge with a low tonight in the mid to upper 20s. Sunday into Monday night cooler air moves for better snowmaking production.

Also to note we have some smoke in the area at this time, there is a fire south of Mammoth, when the wind is out of the SW this week we will be smoky at times.

Looking at the long-range outlooks there are no storms in the 6-10 day forecast at this time. Looking into the fantasy period of Thanksgiving week we see cold and snow showers moving into the area.

The Mammoth Weather Guy posted his first Powder Outlook of the Season, here is the link

If your planning to come up for Thanksgiving, skiing will be out of Main Lodge with limited terrain. Could be a multi-sports Holiday if it stays dry.

Have a great day, Snowman will be updating you Monday – Friday now by 9 AM.

Mammoth Mountain Weather and Snow Report

Mammoth Snowman Report 7-19-2018

7-19-18 – 2 PM – Good day from Mammoth, as of this post we have a thunderstorm going off here in town and up on the hill. Nice to see some more rain to offset this dry Summer.

Over the next few days, we will continue to see more moisture move into the area. By Friday storms will be possible of dropping very heavy rain in the areas that get the big build up’s.

All this moisture and storm activity has the high temperatures coming down over the next 3-5 days.

Today expect a 40% chance of a thunderstorm, and then on Friday into Saturday at least a 50% chance of a storm. Additional moisture moves are way Sunday into Monday for more chances of some heavy downpours.

Highs will be in the 70’s up at Main Lodge and in the Mammoth Lakes Basin over the next week with nighttime low’s down into the low 50’s.

Down in town high’s are heading up in the low 80’s today and then around 78 over the weekend.

Winds the next few days will be south-west 5-10 MPH with afternoon winds 10-20+ MPH at times over higher elevations.

Enjoy the rain and thunderstorms the next few days, the long-range outlook shows us drying up and getting hot again by mid-week.

Good Morning from Horse Shoe Lake – 7-17-2018

The Mammoth Mountain Bike Park is almost 100% open now. Current Conditions are a mix of dusty to very dusty trails. This weeks rain cut down the dust big time out on the hill. I would expect more rain to dampen down the dust later this week.

Trail crews are doing a great jump of keeping the hill in great shape. Come on up for some great downhill action or a fun cross-country ride. Also to note that the Friday Downhill Races Series is happening every Friday at 5 PM, call the bike park for more information.

New this year they allow e-bikes out on the trails. If you struggle to ride at this high altitude an e-bike is the bomb.

You can rent an e-bike at Footloose Sports, they are right at the corner of Main and Old Mammoth road when you come into town.

Beyond the Bike Park, Mammoth Mountain has a cool adventure center for Families right at the base of Main Lodge. There is also a shuttle at Main that will take you down to Reds Meadow and back to Main at the end of the day.

Last but not least check out a scenic Gondola Ride to the top, if you have an Ikon Pass you get to ride up FREE.

Hiking is now wide open, trails in the Lakes Basin are in great shape with most of the snow gone now. If you’re hiking my advice is to start out early when it’s cool and at that time you will find fewer people in the trails. You will also be out of the Thunderstorm activity by going early on your hike.

As for Mountain Biking out of the bike park, all the USFS trails are now open. If you’re riding downhill on the Mammoth Rocks trail BEWARE of horses and lots of hikers.

If you need to rent a downhill or e-bike or have you’re biked worked on Footloose Sports is the spot right when you hit town.

Fishing season is going off with some great fish coming out of Crowley, the Owens River and Twin Lakes in the Mammoth Lakes Basin. Here is a link on fishing in the Mammoth Lakes area.

The town’s paved trail system is all open, try taking your bike on the trolley get off at horseshoe lake and ride back all the way to the Village on mostly flat and downhill terrain.

Camping is now wide open with just Devil Post Pile campground closed. Lot’s of events up and coming here in town over the next 6 weeks. So much to do at this time of year. Come up and beat the heat and have some fun.

Mammoth Mountain Snowman Report 7-17-2018

7-17-18 – 10:24 AM – Good morning from Mammoth, clear skies on this Tuesday morning. As of this post it’s a nice 68 at Main Lodge with a 63 up top.

Last nights low was 53 at Main Lodge, that’s great summer sleeping weather. Winds this morning are out of the SSW 10-20 MPH from Main to the Top. Down here in town we have calm conditions.

Today expect a 20% chance of a thunder storm, could be a few storms over the higher elevations. For the rest of the week we now have a 30% chance of storms in the forecast thru Sunday.

Highs will be in the 70’s up at Main Lodge and in the Mammoth Lakes Basin over the next week with night time low’s down into the low 50’s.

Down in town high’s are heading up in the low to mid 80s’s for the next week with lows in the mid 50s at night.

Winds the next few days will be South West 5-10 MPH with afternoon winds 10-20+ MPH at times over higher elevations.

July is normally the hottest month of the year here in Mammoth. So far no major heat waves with none in sight.

As for Mountain Biking out of the bike park, all the USFS trails are now open. If you’re riding downhill on the Mammoth Rocks trail BEWARE of horses and lot’s of hikers.

Mammoth Mountain Snow Report 4-15-2018

Sunday at 9 AM UPDATED – Good morning we have high clouds in the area with winds 15-25 MPH out of the SW on the lower mountain.

Up top winds are gusting to 50 and it’s 22 with firm snow pack conditions.

Highs will be in the 40s today with lows in the 20s. Expect increasing clouds and winds today leading to snowfall tonight into Monday night. We might even see a few snowflakes in time for the pond skim today.

Current Snow Conditions: Snowman was out on a Saturday, spent the whole morning on chair 9. Half the snow was some real fun corn and the other half was still converting over and was real slow when we hit noon.

Tons of fun over on 9 for it’s last weekend of operation. Up top you could see it was still winter conditions with a mix of firm, wind buff and ice.

This will be the last weekend for Canyon Lodge and Eagle with them closing today. If you’re into the pond skim that goes down after lunch to the first 50 people to sign up.

Starting next week we will be skiing out of Main Lodge, I would expect lifts to be running mid week will be: 1, 2, 3, 6, 11, 23 and G1 and G2. If there is enough people out they can also run 4, 5, 10, 12, 13 and 14 on the weekends.

Weather wise we expect snow tonight with snow showers into Monday night.

9 AM – Looking at the model run that just came in it has just over an inch of water for the Powder Fields of Mammoth. At 15-1 that could add up to 10-15 inches of fresh snow for the Main Lodge area.

So Riders of the Storm we will see you at the Mill on Monday morning. Bluebird lovers Tuesday will be your day.

Hint if you’re skiing in spring snow leave your winter groomers skis at home, they are never going to be much fun in the slush, get a pair of wide rocker skis and you will be having a blast.

A lot of you are asking how long the ski area will run, we have a 10 foot solid base at MC Coy, so mid June to July 4th depending on how warm it gets this spring. You know the mountain wants to go to July 4th to keep the streak alive.

1-3-2018 Mammoth Snowman Report

Welcome to MammothSnowman.com

1-3-2018 @ Noon – Happy New Year from the Team at MammothSnowman.com

Same old story out on the hill with the groomers rocking with some great corduroy in the am and a soft surface the rest of the day.

Snowman just got off the hill and did a quick report if you scroll down the page, you will see it.

Crowd wise there are a a lot of people in town, but they seem to be slow to get to the hill, so no lines early in the am and just light lines in the pm hours.

Let’s talk about the weather now, we will continue to have a mix of clear skies with thick high clouds at times today. Highs should be in the 40’s. Lows at night are in the upper 20’s to the low 30’s.

Winds will be out of the south 5 to 15 mph with gusts to 25+ MPH possible. Gust’s on Thursday could be 50+ MPH over the higher elevations.

Tonight we expect a 80% chance of a dusting to an inch of snow, with some brief snow showers early Thursday.

Then Friday night into Saturday we could see 1-3 inches of snowfall. Snow levels will be well above 8000 feet tonight and into Thursday morning.

Next Tuesday into Wednesday is are best shot for snow. Right now models have 1-3 feet coming in, that would refresh things very nicely. 🙂  For more weather details from the Weather Guy, use this link

Just a note we have some issues with the video editor, getting that fixed and then I will get you a fresh video report later this week.

Locals Choice – Upper St Anton and Gremlins are in great shape

Detailed Report and Surface Conditions

1-3-2018 – Snowman headed out to the hill this AM right at 8:30 am. There was a thick cloud deck over head, I was worried about flat light but you could just see the surface when we got to the top of 16.

First thing I did was head to five to get the beta on Solitude. When I got to the top of 5 and looked down I saw a ton of floaters. The snow was good and none of the little rocks did any damage.

The good news is that is the only run I encountered those little rocks today, the rest of the runs are all cleaned up and the groomed snow was really soft and a ton of fun.

Skied Wall Street and that was a blast being first down and laying some nice carved turns. The snow was much softer then when I hit Wall Street on Sunday.

It really amazes me how well the ski area is keeping up with the snow surface and keeping it in great shape. Even with limited snow everyone is having a blast out on the hill that I have talked to.

Up top Cornice is groomed and in good condition, it ski’s best first thing when they open and it still has a nice corduroy surface.

As the day warms up by about 10 am the lower apron on the Drop Outs is still good for some wind pack turns. Yes the snow pack in this area is firm, if you fall be ready for a long slide. My advice is to have good tune on your edges

Over on Saddle Bowl they have the snow groomed into a just about perfect surface. Gremlins Gulch is also in great shape.

Taking a lap down St Anton was just perfect today. The hard stuff that was on that run a few days ago has been groomed out and back to the way Snowman likes it.

Great job by the grooming crew working with snow that is all used up and has taken a hit from highs in the 50’s.

Back at the top of 3 I did a lap on Center Bowl, it’s a bit firm at the top so watch yourself. About 6 turns in you hit the good snow, it’s a bit firm but still laps in here are a lot of fun.

Over on Broadway, Stump Alley, and Rusty’s again a fun groomed out soft snow with no rocks to be seen.

I still think the best groomed snow on the hill is over on chair 12. Sure it’s a slow ride up, but that’s what keeps a lot of people off those runs.

Next I up it was time to test out Back for More. I had seen it had been groomed so I was wondering if it would be good or not. The snow is very thin in here with some little tree tops in a couple spots. The surface was actually good and I took a couple laps in here via chair 9.

Gold Hill and the other runs in the East Bowl are all closed at this time. We need a foot or more to get them open again.

Also to note if we do get a storm next week please be advised that the Face of 25 is ALL DIRT. If you charge into that area you not going to be happy.

For my last run this am I took a ride up 9 to access the coverage and I found it’s extreme low tide. We need a good 3-5 feet to get things going off in that area.

That’s my on hill beta from this am’s session. Plan on being out daily again now that the holidays are over. Will update again on Wednesday. Snowman out….

PS: Please use the coupons here if you can, with out them there would be no MammothSnowman.com.

Much gratitude to those who are subscribers and those who have made a donation this year, thank you very much.

Last but not least I need to move and I am looking for a new home here in town. Please contact me if you know anything. I have about 90 days left but I can leave at anytime. Thanks for your help!

Mammoth Snowman Report 12-15-2017

Welcome to MammothSnowman.com

December 15th, 2017 @ 1 PM – Clear blue skies over Mammoth Mountain Today. So much fun with the entire lift system now running. We are still skiing and snowboarding on some very fun machine groomed snow.

At this time we have a base of 20-60 inches, and there are over 120+ named runs opened, watch for obstacles as it’s still early season.

Check out our Video Snow Tour below for a sample of this week snow conditions.

There is also a detailed mountain report down the page along with your Christmas weather outlook.

Last but not least there are 50 fresh images loading for you if you scroll down this web page.

Mammoth Snowman Snow Stoke and Snowman Report Video

Mammoth Lakes Coupons

Mammoth Mountain Weather for the weekend expect highs in the 30’s with moderate to strong north winds. Lows will be back into the 20’s. There is a 20% chance of a snow shower on Saturday as well.  Sunday into Tuesday it will be clear with highs trying to move back into the 40s by Monday.

The wind forecast for Saturday is calling for north winds to be blowing 20-40 MPH with gusts to 60 MPH mid mountain. Over the top we expect gusts 60-75+ MPH and a possible wind hold for some mid and upper mountain lifts.

Next Wednesday into Christmas Weekend we will have a cold front from Canada coming down the back side of the ridge. This pattern is a very cold one and could bring in a dusting to several inches of snow. There will also be a ton of wind next Wednesday and that will result in single digit wind chills.

Years back we had a system like this and it somehow got off the coast and over water and then doubled back on us for a 2-3 foot dumper. Pray for Snow you never know what can happen.

Bottom line is get ready to bundle up… more on that outlook on Saturday.

Snowman’s Detailed Report and Surface conditions as of 12-15-2017 1:30 PM…

Today is the last day of the preseason what a blast that was. Great snow, great friends, such good times.

For now we get ready for the holiday crowds to descend upon town tonight. Good thing all the lifts are now open that will help keep lines down.

Skied most of the hill this week and one thing is for sure the snow continues to consolidate and get firmer on a daily basis. That firm base is still very carvable in most spots on and off the groomers.

Most of the groomers now have that nice corduroy surface that is soft. As the day goes on that snow gets spread around so a soft sugary surface that is a ton of fun to ski on.

However today Friday we had some SW winds pick up and they did firm the surface in wind exposed areas, so the corduroy was more crunchy then soft. Chair 4 and 16 had the best snow as it was soft and unaffected by today’s winds.

Over at Canyon the runs are getting better daily as the snow cats needed a few night’s to turn the man made cement into a fun skiable surface.

I skied both Swell and Downhill again today and they went from firm on Wednesday to soft and fun today. Snowman was shocked it was so good.

Skied down to Eagle on Wednesday and there is plenty of snow on the open runs. It was a bit firm, but with more grooming I am sure it will be fun for some laps come the weekend. Runs without snowmaking this low are not skiable at this time.

Chair 25 and 9 opened today, Snowman tried it again and thinks those runs would be fun if they got groomed. The only good sections is in areas where the wind is blowing soft snow into. I hope that tonight those runs get groomed, we could use that terrain now that the Holiday’s have hit Mammoth.

Chair 4 has great coverage and the groomers seem a bit softer then the other runs out on the hill. Great for laps with the kids. South Park is just starting to be set up with a few feature’s set up but not accessible at this time.

Chair 5 has some great corduroy in the morning on Solitude, today as that run got skied the wind started blowing the snow all around. The surface went from a firm groomed surface to sugary and soft. The face is still carvable but has definitely gotten very firm with the wind returning.

Chair 3 Center Bowl is groomed nice and wide with nice big carvable bomber turns possible first thing in the morning. West Bowl has some firm but still carvable snow with bump turns ruling in here. My favorite run off of 3 is Saddle Bowl to Gremlins Gulch to St Anton. I have not tried Christmas and China Bowl this week.

Chair 12 Groomed out fun all day long, the corduroy in here is just a ton of fun and coverage has been good.

Mammoth Snowman Report 11-6-2017

Welcome to MammothSnowman.com

Monday November 6th, 2017 @ 8:30 AM – Hello everyone Snowman here with you, Mammoth is still set to open this Thursday.

Currently out on Mammoth Mountain the snowmaking system is running on Broadway, the path to Fascination and in the Unbound Main Park.

The storm that we had high hopes for was a bust for what was forecast. So no 1-3 feet, just a few inches on the ground for now.

For this week we have clear sky’s into Wednesday with highs in the 40s a Main Lodge. Low’s over night will be warming up, we expect a 19 tonight and then a 26 on Tuesday night.

Wednesday night looks to be a bit warm with a temp of 30 for the low at Main. So just limited snowmaking at that point.

Winds will be 15-20 MPH out of the SW the next few days then will become moderate on Thursday as the cold front moves thru.

What will be open come this Thursday? At this point at least Broadway will be open. If crew’s can make enough snow there should be a path with features in the Unbound Main. They are also blowing snow now on Andy’s Double Gold.

The Long Range Weather Outlook: Yikes how do you trust anything at this point? The door is open to get a storm in here next week so at this point it’s just wait it out see what happens. At least we do have snowmaking, I remeber all the years we did not have it and did not ski.

Stay tuned in here at MammothSnowman.com as we will be updating daily now.

Mammoth Snowman Storm Update 10-30-2017

Welcome to MammothSnowman.com

Free Hot Wax Footloose Sports10-30-17 10:00 AM – Good Monday morning from the Snowman. Yahoo the warming trend has ended and things are cooling of a bit this week.

The big news is the major change in the weather pattern starting late this week.

We are headed for some significant snowfall on Mammoth Mountain this weekend into early next week. Along with an extended period of cooler then normal temperatures, for an epic snowmaking run.

Confidence is now high in a change to cold and wet, and moderate that we get 1-3 feet of snow out of this first weekend system.

There is also a chance that we do get a more solid sub tropical hook up right over Mammoth Mountain for additional feet of snow on the ground.

Bottom line is we really need to wait 48-72 hours more to know with high confidence how much possible footage we will get. Models are still wavering a bit keep holding up to our first call amounts.

Snow levels will start out around 8000 feet late Saturday/Sunday and drop to around 5,500 feet by Sunday. Yes new models are delaying the start of the system now making it a Sunday/Monday event.

Local roads will turn to R1 next weekend with chain controls possible down to the Sherwin Grade. Time to get your winter car kits set up and be ready to chain up and SLOW DOWN.

For the next few days expect a cooling trend with high clouds at times and light winds. Highs will be in the 50s on the hill and down into the 60s in town. Lows will be in the mid 30s at night.

Stay tuned in here at MammothSnowman.com as we will be updating in the AM and PM daily now.

Have a great day and if you’re a local get your yard and car ready for winter NOW.

10-23-2017 Mammoth Snowman Report

Welcome to MammothSnowman.com

Free Hot Wax Footloose Sports10-23-17 8:00 AM Good morning from Mammoth Mountain, 17 days to go before the ski area opens.

Snowmaking crews have come on board and have set up snowmaking guns on Broadway and Saddle Bowl. They will fire up the system as soon as this weeks California heat wave ends.

This week we expect highs into the 60’s on Mammoth Mountain with low 70’s in town. Night time lows are still in the 30’s with light winds 5-10 MPH in the area.

Look for highs to peak out on Wednesday and then things will slowly start to cool off here in Mammoth.

Cooler air for some limited night time snowmaking looks to be coming in around 7-10 days.

Long range weather is tough at this time of the year so hard to make any more prediction for snow or cold air for snowmaking just yet. Something is coming down the line sooner then later I just have that feeling. 🙂

Mammoth Snowman Report 10-20-2017 9 AM

Welcome to MammothSnowman.com

Free Hot Wax Footloose Sports10-20-17 9 AM  – Good morning from Mammoth Mountain, 19 days to go before the ski area opens.

Snowman feels so excited I hope you do too.

At this time we have snow falling in the area, with snow down to 8000 feet at this time.

Checking on snow totals I have 1-2 inches here at my cabin at 8200 feet. 2-3 Inches up at Main and more up top.

The snow is a nice thick heavy wet base snow, just what we need to get some moisture back into the ground.

Mc Coy Station Cam Mammoth MountainWeather Update from 10-20:

The storm we have waited over two weeks for is here and it’s right on track to bring us 3-6 inches of heavy wet base snow. This mess will be out of here later today and then we are heading for a major October warm up.

For today expect a highs in the 30s on the hill with highs in the 40s on Friday. Lows will be into the upper 20s tonight.

Winds today are gusting to 35 in town with gust to 50+ over the ski area.

Look for warming this weekend with highs in the low 60s on the hill by Sunday and mid 60s by mid week. Here in town we could see high in the 70s next week.

Beyond that time frame we expect things to cool off as the MJO moves into Phase 6. Looks like the next chance for snow is about 10-14 days out.

Here is todays CFSv2 outlook for November, it shows a nice wet month. Confidence in that outlook is about a 3, we will keep watching and update you daily now.

Opening day for Winter Sports on Mammoth Mountain is November 9th, 2017. Snowmaking crews should start to come on board for set up and training around the 21st of October.

Things to do while we wait for winter sports to start:

For a fall colors drive Rock Creek Canyon has peaked up high but is still good lower down and mid way up. The June Lake Loop is all full of Color as is Crowley Lake and Old Mammoth.

Fall Mountain Biking is a ton of fun and it’s all based on peddle power. You can still ride the Bike Park just watch for crews getting ready for winter.

All Inyo Forest Trails are open and in prime shape for a ride.  Nothing like a ride with perfect fall weather. Rock Creek Canyon is also perfect now and there are a ton of fall colors.

Hiking is still wide open, most of the snow that fell 9/21 has melted now so it’s much easier to get around. Try the Sherwin Lakes Hike for a bit of color or a hike around Convict Lake will also offer up a colorful experience.

Mammoth Snowman Weather and Snow Report 10-14-2017

Welcome to MammothSnowman.com

Free Hot Wax Footloose Sports10-14-17 8AM  – Hello from Mammoth Mountain.

At this time we have some great fall weather in the area. Fall colors as of today are peaking out. If you’re into Fall Colors now is the time to head up to Mammoth.

Hiking is still wide open, most of the snow that fell 9/21 has melted now so it’s much easier to get around. Try the Sherwin Lakes Hike for a bit of color or a hike around Convict Lake will also offer up a colorful experience.

Opening day for Winter Sports on Mammoth Mountain is November 9th, 2017. If we get 2-3 feet on the ground before that they will open early.

Snowmaking crews should start to come on board for set up and training around the 21st of October.

**Weather for Mammoth Mountain: Expect highs in the 50s the next few days with highs in the 60s in town. Night time lows for the next week will be down into the 30’s and into the upper 20s. Expect light winds at times the next couple days 5-10 MPH.

For the upcoming week the storm we have mentioned for two weeks is finally on our door step. As of this morning QPF would indicated 12-18 inches of snow. Yes way up from the 3-6 inches we have been talking about. One model had close to 2 inches of water coming in over the Sierra crest Thursday into Friday.

These amounts will have to be looked at again on Monday and then we will have more confidence in what may be coming our way. At this time confidence is moderate that we will pick up a few inches at least.

Looking at snow levels, expect them to start out high on Thursday above 10,000 feet and then drop to around 8000 – 9000 feet as the storm moves thru on Thursday night. By Friday we will see snow showers all the way down to 6000 feet or possibly lower.

Pray for Snow – Snowman out

Looks like a chance for heavy rain the next few days from afternoon thunderstorms.

On Wednesday we even have a flash flood watch in effect and we might see that extended into Thursday.   After that Mammoth Mountain will dry out for the upcoming weekend into early next before the next chance of Thunderstorms return. 2014-07-15_1019Mountain Bike and Hiking trails are in great shape across the entire Mountain at this time.  The Bike Park is open from top to bottom…. Looking forward to the 2014 -2015 winter season, Snowman will be back, his main focus will be on Weather, Snow Conditions along with Photo Snow Reports. We plan on posting every Wednesday of the upcoming snow season.

Snowfall wise, it’s way to early to have an idea of what will come next winter. Most of you have heard a El Nino event is on the way. Do not get into the media hype, El Nino events can bring drought or deluge so wait a see.

Mammoth Mountain Snow Report 3-29-2014

3-29-2014 7:45AM – Good morning from Mammoth Mountain, we have a Winter Storm Warning posted from late today thru the night time hours.

As of 7am at Main Lodge we have winds to 40 mph with a temperature of 28, up at 11,053 feet winds are peaking at 70 mph with a temperature of 21.

Chairs 9, 12, 22, 23 and 25 are on wind hold at this time.  I would expect more to be added to the list by 8am….

Tonight’s storm could bring 7-10 inches in town and a good 12-18+ inches from Main Lodge on up to the top of Mammoth Mountain.  Sunday is looking to clear out fast for a epic spring powder day.

By Monday the next powder event is on the way with snow by late in the day and into Tuesday.  That snow should be some nice and light powder.  Some forecasts show the snow as light as 20-1.  Amounts could be in the 12-24+ inch range for some epic powder skiing and riding!

If you want a taste of some powder today is the time to pack the car and drive up.  I would plan on staying thru Wednesday for epic powder skiing and riding. If you need lodging your can book it right here at MammothSnowman.com, use our Mammoth Lakes Lodging link.

Mammoth Mountain Cam

3-24-2014 7AM – Good morning from Mammoth Mountain, we have spring conditions on the lower half of the hill, with winter wind pack and great groomers on the upper half of the ski area.

Mammoth Mountain Photos 3-19-2014

The base is around 50-70 inches from Main Lodge on up to the top. The snow is getting a bit firm up top with the days in the 40s and 50s over the weened.

We could use a refresher of new snow and it looks to be on the way this Tuesday night into early Thursday. Take a look at the QPF chart below, it shows 1 – 1.5 inces of water for the Mammoth Lakes and Mammoth Mountain Areas.

p120i12

Click for Full Size QPF Chart

Many times those QPF forecasts are a bit low for Mammoth, with this system it does look like we could see a good 12-18 inches over the upper powderfields of Mammoth Mountain Tuesday night into Early Thursday.

This will be a much needed refresh back to winter conditions. Please remember it’s now spring so the sun is high in the sky.

You want to get up here for the powder & packed powder on Wednesday since it will not last long once the sun it out. Weather Guy will have a update late on Tuesday so check this link at that time for the last update on the new storm and more to come after that.

For Monday into Tuesday the best skiing and riding at this time is up top on Cornice early and on the chairs 3 and 5 on the groomers. Best bet is to keep riding out of the main lodge area until Canyon gets a refresh on Wednesday.

The Canyon are is firm early and full on spring mush by 11am. I would avoid the Little Eagle area at this time, it’s very melted out and not the best experience right now.

If you want to save big on lift tickets check out the packages you can now get right from MammothSnowman.com and Liftopia.

If your looking for Discount Ski Rentals in Mammoth Lakes try out the Ski Renter here in town by the Shell Station. If your into Snowboarding, Wave Rave can take care of you with Rentals and Plenty of New Gear on Sale.

Looking WAY ahead to Next Season the MVP goes on sale this week, drought or deluge it’s still a great deal. Got to be impressed with the effort that was made with snowmaking this season!

The Early Forecast for next season does show a rather strong El Nino event. It’s all ready starting to form. At this point winds that forecasters look at are stronger then in spring 1997 when the last so called supper El Nino formed and brought the entire state a big winter. All I know is I am getting a season pass for next season! ______________________

Snowmaking Update

ptz.cgi10-23-2013 7:06 AM – Hello and welcome to MammothSnowman.com.

SNOW-MAKING WAS ON Early this Morning!

You read that right, snowmaking operations cranked up for a few hours last night. Looks a bit weak at this point, but this is how it all begins.

Expect a few hours of snowmaking again over the next few nights. By Monday and Tuesday much cooler air will be in the area for the first significant snowmaking run.  Highs on Tuesday will be in the low to mid 30s at the Main Lodge.

Perfect timing next week with the cold air as we will be out filming our first Video Snow Report of the Season. This years video snow report series will come out online on late Wednesday afternoons and the Outside TV version on Thursday and Fridays.

At this point we are just 15 days until the scheduled opener here at the Mammoth Mountain Ski Area.

Snowman out….

Update Tuesday 8:32am

IMG_79519-3-2013 8AM -With Labor Day behind us it’s now time to enjoy Fall and the change over from Fall colors to the white stuff.

I don’t know about you but this is a very exciting time. Fall is a great time to visit before it snows and take in some cooler and get a killer bike ride or hike in.

Up on Mammoth Mountain crews are getting ready for the upcoming season and the Kamikaze bike game that start on Wednesday.

There are some image below of the new snow making line they are installing off the face of 5 to the Half Pipe near the top of Chair 4.

Snowman will be out on a hill a couple times a week checking out whats going on and reporting it here at the web site right up until opening day.

Signs of Fall, some of the Aspens in the local area are getting some Yellow leaves. Expect the colors to start turning hard in about 3 weeks. We have a Fall Colors Report page here if your interested.

Here in Mammoth Lakes, we have seen a few signs of a normal to above normal winter. One sign is we have very Large Fir Pine Cones. They are so big that they are stressing out the branches they are on. These cones are also dropping lot’s of sap. More then I have ever seen. Snowman posted a early winter outlook about a month ago, next update on that page around the 21st of the month.

Mammoth Mountain Update

8-26-2013 8AM – Starting to feel a bit like early Fall out on Mammoth Mountain.

Some of the Aspens in the local area are even getting some Yellow leaves and it’s not even September yet.

Chatting with Weather Guy, he was saying maybe a early opener with a couple storms in October.

Here in Mammoth Lakes, we see a few signs of a normal to above normal winter. One sign is we have very Large Fir Pine Cones. They are so big that they are stressing out the branches they are on. These cones are also dropping lot’s of sap. More then I have ever seen.

We have also had lot’s of troughing of the west coast this August, Winters to follow always seem to be more wet then dry.

Lol, seems like every year we start getting excited about the snow season earlier and earlier. For those with kids, maybe it’s the fact that school starts a month earlier then when most of us where kids. That gets the sub concussion thinking opening day is not far off.

I sure hope WG is right, October Skiing and Snowboarding would be great! So while we wait for winter it’s time to get in great Fall shape out on Mammoth Mountain and here in the Eastern Sierra.  Snowman out….
