Eastern Sierra Mountain Biking Report
June 2nd, 2022 – Prime time to ride over the next month with lighter crowds and decent temperatures in the outlook for the next couple of weeks if not most of June.
The big news this week is the Mammoth Mountain Bike Park is open from just above the Chair 4 Parking area down to Canyon Lodge and Eagle Lodges.
Lift access is from the Bike Park Shuttle at the Village at Mammoth up to Main Lodge. The bus loads on the Canyon Blvd Side by the Gondola.
Here are the trails now listed for this weekend in the Bike Park. Uptown, Downtown, Shotgun, Smooth Operator, Gopher Trail, Lakes Trail, Big Ring, Paper Route, Manzanita, Timber Ridge, & Juniper.
Mammoth Lakes Area: Everything from Mammoth Rock Trail to Shady Rest is now open, cleaned up, and clear of snow.
The trail head at Mountain View is dry, and you can make it to the top vista, there is still some snow in the shade near the top that should melt out fast now.
The Knolls Loop is in prime condition, enjoy the views from this ride as they are epic.
Inyo Forest Rides: Inyo Craters Loop, Big and Little Smokey Bear Loops and the ride up Bald Mountain are all open and in great condition. Yes these areas have some sandy sections so be ready when you hit them.
Toms Place Area: Lower Rock Creek Canyon is in great shape and is wide open for a ride, do watch for hikers and dogs on the trail.
Sand Canyon is melted out, but I have not ventured here and have no reports of what the trail / road condition is like right now.
Over on the Sunny Slopes side, all the dirt roads are melted out and open for a ride. However, beware of the sandy sections as everything is dry now in that area.
Bishop Area – White Mountain Road is open as are all the funky trails in that area. Also to note this area gets direct mid and late-day sunshine so ride here early or it will be hot.
For the best single-track action right now, of course, Chipmunk Canyon is King with several miles of climbing, downhill action, and cross country style riding.
You will find Chipmunk Canyon at the end of Barlow Lane in West Bishop. All the trails in this area are unmarked, however, you can see them on the Strava app.
Ride-On everyone, Snowman…
